A blue bloods coach would have to get fired or leave for Wade to accept a job at one of them. Coach K ain't leaving, Cal ain't leaving, Izzo aint leaving. Hes building LSU into a powerhouse and he aint leaving. Pay the man. ESPECIALLY if he brings in another awesome class and stays on the path hes on.
Eventually Coach K and Izzo are going to die. They both have a 30 year head start on Wade in the game of life. And eventually Cal is going to die, get Kentucky on probation, or both.
That being said, I honestly believe Wade is here for the long haul.
And if he isn't, at least he will leave this program in much better shape than he found it.

The NBA is one thing. I have a hard time imagining him building LSU into a powerhouse and then bolting to another school unless we just refuse to pay him. But this is all so speculative and looking so far into the future that I don’t really see the point of trying to discuss it.
Wade may try to use the UCLA job to try to leverage Alleva in to getting what he wants. I still think UCLA looks at Fred Hoiberg and Eric Musselman first though.
LSU SHOULD be in a good spot financially. Miles' buyout is off the books (not sure about his assistants). Jones' buyout should be coming off soon and it's not incredibly steep. LSU has a football HC who they can essentially pay as little as they want (within reason). No one is coming "steal" O from LSU.
Basketball is the only other significant revenue generating sport (baseball generates a little). LSU can and should invest a little more into the program. I think Wade has earned it.
As to whether or not Wade would leave, I think he would if he felt the AD wasn't giving him all he thought he needed to succeed. That said, he's at a spot where he can build a really good program (a la Florida under Donovan)

"Touch every line" was his early slogan
In his teams first practices they ran suicides and he saw some guys not fully reaching and touching the line before going to the next one. He stressed that you have to give 100% effort in everything you do....
"Touch every line. Because there are two ways to do things, do it the right way, or you do it AGAIN" "Do it again"

Is Wade going to syracluse to make $25/hr?? They don't pay up there. Besides gayheim is gonna hand pick one of his ex player assistants, and that program will slide further down the toilet.

Bertman proved you can make LSU be what you want it to be. Win the games, and the fan base and the dollars will follow. LSU is a top ten revenue school. The "blue bloods" aren't. If he builds a program here, Wade will have resources and a fan base few schools can match.
Truthfully, it might hurt Kentucky, but a good LSU would help the SEC tremendously in basketball. The conference needs more heavy hitters who make runs in the tournament.

If he does this two years in a row we should:
1. Match the average of the top five contracts in college basketball.
2. Include a huge buyout clause.
3. Include a provision that abrogates the guarantees if he is caught cheating.

Think of a guy like Mark Few at Gonzaga. Why hasn't he left to greener pastures? Because he doesn't have to. Duke is happy to play them as are many others. In basketball, iron sharpens iron and the big boys look to play one another and aren't hampered by league and non-league schedules etched out five years ahead of time.
BTW: Few is also making quite a bit less than Will Wade. Wade was paid with a long term hefty salary based upon his potential. Let him accomplish some of his goals, get a couple more top ten classes and then really give him the raise that will keep him here until he retires.

UCLA fans want championships every year. They also have lots of knuckleheads that can keep a guy like Wade [or Alford for that matter] from being able to run their show their way. Why the hell did they fire Ben Howland? UCLA's AD [Guerrero] may be even worse than Aleva. They also have a University President who WILL NOT pay huge bucks to a coach. The medical school comes first at UCLA.

There has some talk that UCLA is interested in Virginia’s Tony Bennett and Bennett hasn’t denied interest. If Bennett leaves UVA, I could see Wade going for the UVA job if LSU has a great run in the Tournament, and I hope I’m dead wrong here. With Wade at VCU for a while, he would still have a lot of recruiting ties to Virginia.
It wouldn’t fit the “rebuilding” narrative, but he would be at a top ACC school not named Duke or N. Carolina.

I don’t know why, but I get the feeling Will Wade enjoys LSU way more than he thought he was going to.
To me it seemed like he was taking this job as a stepping stone at first, but now it seems like he is invested in the culture and the program.

Maintaining VCU and maintaining LSU are two totally different definitions and one isn't as fun as the other. I'm pretty sure that's what he meant.
I swear some of you doom and gloom people will just never give it up. The man isn't going anywhere anytime soon. If he's getting steady talent to play for him at LSU, he's steady climbing, plays for and is beating the blue bloods why in Sam Hill would he go to a program that's much more stressful and expects to win every year when he can build LSU up to that and still not have the pressure of actually doing it every year?
LSU will pay him his earned money when he's due, no question about it. You also give him more money to invest, he'll stay even longer and win even more. May as well just do it. We'll have a champion style play in every meaningful sport plus gymnastics and maybe softball also.

Thankfully, we value sports far more than education here in the real LA.

I've often wondered what the allure is of the blue blood programs. I get it to a degree...the history, the championship legacy, etc. However, I think Wade probably recognizes that he is in a great spot at LSU, and he can make his mark in our basketball program's lore.
When you think about LSU basketball, we've had some unbelievable players with legendary names...Shaq, Pistol Pete, Chris Jackson, Big Baby Davis, (Ben Simmons?). However, this has never translated into championships, and Wade has the chance and the resources and support to make his mark. Pay that mofo!
