What if the team is invited (imo unlikely given the SEC dynamics this year) and wins and actually has success in the tourney? I remember South Carolina winning the NIT a few years back after a subpar SEC campaign, also Aggies making it to the NIT final in 2022.

Naa after that north Texas game I'm pretty much out on the NIT forever.

In the old days it was a good way to develop a culture /let Seniors get a few more games in. Now? It's pretty much for mid major players to audition for their next stop.

I was told we actually put in a bid weeks ago to host a first round game. So I'd say yes they would probably accept one.

If they accept, that is likely a signal that McMahon returns unless they have already fired him by then.

why would you not want to give possibly any returning players experience in an elimination tournament?

Is that common for teams with losing records to get bids? I thought it was generally small conf teams that won their regular season but got booted in conference tourneys and teams that just missed the NCAAT that got invited.

Didn’t even know losing teams got invites unless that many other teams ahead of us just turned it down.

Don’t sweat it. I don’t think we have anything to worry about.

It’s like the bowl system. So bloated that they often have to take teams that ordinarily wouldn’t get a sniff.

That North Texas game really surprised me. LSU was playing decent basketball at the time, winning 6 of its previous 9 games. And we had beaten them earlier in the season in a tourney. Also I couldn't understand the lack of fan support in the PMAC that game. LSU had good crowds for several home games prior to that NIT contest.

Don't think that it's his choice. If Auburn and OU end up on the wrong side of the bubble, there likely won't be a choice.

No, LSU isn't accepting an NIT bid.

I am not sweating it. I have 0 influence, so I can only ride the tides of whatever is decided.

I am currently awaiting the announcement of LSU MBB's future with guarded pessimism.

Why drag this crap out? More proof that the athletic department enjoys rubbing the fans’ noses in it.

OU is on the cusp of a tourney bid. Auburn is surely NIT-bound after their late collapse vs Tennessee yesterday.

So it's possible Texas, Missouri and Okie all make the NCAA (though none of them are locks). If that happens that would leave Auburn and possibly LSU as NIT options, though Ole Miss might be an alternative to LSU thanks to their surprising SEC tourney surge.

The NIT needs to go away.
The days are long gone when that tournament had any prestige.
On the other hand, this will be a good way for us to kill time before NC State gets bumped out of the big tournament.

With Miller out, literally the only possible returning player getting minutes is Reece
