In the past Lane had a tendency to go for it on 4th down when the yardage is 3 and under. I actually love this aggressive approach on offense! What do you guys and girls think?

Yes, he has the personnel to make those short yardage gains.

Baker will earn his money this season, his defense backs will be against the wall every game.

Since like 2022 he hasn’t been as aggressive on 4th down situations.

He also really didn’t have great defenses in the early part of OM tenure so he had to take more risk.

If the personnel, scheme and pace of the game are all in unison, he’s not stopping it.

He will but it depends on the feel of the game and all. If he has like a top 10 or 20 defense on his side then he either may feel more comfortable taking 3 instead of going for it to get 7 as he knows he may not have to score as many points to win. That or he could go for it more knowing he has a strong defense to back him up if he don't make it. Said all that to say I have no clue but it will be entertaining whichever way it goes. you are welcome for the input.

Lane was much less aggressive on 4th down last year, somewhat due to having some decent talent on their defense finally.

I think you’ll see an approach similar to last year, he’s going to take risk but it’s within the flow of the game. You might even see going for it less this year overall due to having a really good defense on the other side

With the leg that the transfer kicker from Arkansas is supposed to have? Not as much as people expect.

A lot depends on your defense. Defense should be lights out, so offense can be more conservative and let the defense give you the ball right back.

Of course, game flow, position on the field, and distance all factor in. But yes, generally speaking the aggressive calls are proving more and more beneficial.

No, he's going to play late 50s, early 60s defensive style ball and punt on third down.

Kelly went for it a lot on 4th. The difference is Kiffin will have a plan when doing so.

Yes, and when he does go for it, it will be a quick play before the defense has time to run in new personnel.
