The biggest screwup in 2011 was NOT playing Mett from the start. Lee and Jefferson were below average. Mett might have taken some lumps but by the end of the year he would’ve been way better than either. Plus in 2012 when LSU was still loaded on both sides of the ball, Mett would’ve taken the jump that he eventually took in 2013.

Les Miles was just stealing money from LSU the last several years. Alleva should've been hung for continually extending that bozo's contract.

In the national championship game MILES was just plain out coached... as a coach he never recovered from that loss and his stubborn attitude refusing to change cost him his job..he should have been fired at the end of the year before they played Wisconsin in green bay...

I would be too. He worked his while life to be there. Thise kids had a once in a lifetime opportunity thrown away by Miles and his clown fricking show. I dont care who plays. But Jefferson was THE worst QB I've ever watched......ever. Matt would have worked
Miles sucks and always did.
Hes the luckiest POS coaching wise, in Earth.

What Blackwell say that was wrong? I loved Les, but that Alabama game plan in New Orleans was pathetic.

What game plan was that....he just ran the same old offense of run run run...

I can understand wanting to try some of the option plays that worked well in the first matchup, but you have to have other schemes in the well for a game of that magnitude. The fact that miles had no other game plan and was so nonchalant after the game rubbed even his most loyal backers the wrong way. The guy was a great man and did many good things here, but his stubbornness to change was like no other.

No one can really defend the game plan for that night or the offense in general but its pretty myopic to think only Miles had any impact on that game and the other coach, who if memory serves is pretty good was just a lucky bystander.
The game plan was conservative, but it was the same game plan we ran all year. That team/staff wasn't capable of implementing the kind of game plan it would have taken to win that game.
Blackwell and the OL was destroyed and as a result, the offense was dead in the water. People who think Lee would have made a difference are delusional.

Les went into his ultra risk averse shell
Absolutely crazy to watch the mad hatter character create itself while we watched someone who couldn't even try to win when given the opportunity.

He didn’t come off as whiny in that interview at all.

Blackwell trashing his coach says a lot about the character of Blackwell. Really bad look Will. They beat y’all arse, and Lee would not have changed that.
In that interview he didn’t trash Les and he did not suggest Lee would have changed things. He said poor preparation and lack of offensive creativity led to that loss.

No, the truth of the matter is that LSU went into the “game of the century” played on Alabama’s home field and won. How or why doesn’t matter - in the espn/ncaa era of “every game counts” this should have mattered.
Instead, the jihad of reporters and talking heads chose to make a political point, and totally screwed LSU.
LSU’s reward for going to Tuscaloosa and winning the “game of the century” was that they Had to beat Georgia in the Sec championship to get a rematch with the Gumps. Alabama’s “punishment” for losing was avoiding the extra game vs a top ten opponent and getting a free pass into the national championship game.
The espn media jihad pushed for it because they got shown up hitching their wagons to Bama and they wanted to create a “playoff”.
Seriously, every voter in the polls who voted to give the gumps a do over, any gump fan that feels they were national champs (or
For that matter anyone) and all the espn talking heads deserve to burn in hell. They stole the rightful title that belonged to the LSU players, fans and alumni.

Death, taxes, Will Blackwell getting 15 minutes of fame every year for calling out Les. While he is not wrong, there is a day or 2 every year where he randomly comes out throwing the same shots at Les which generates some attention. At this point, we’re learning nothing new. Les was beyond stubborn & shite the bed on 1/9, Lee deserved a chance, Bama should've never been there, Blackwell is still upset, etc. We get it.
The most interesting thing from that interview was Jacques saying that Matt Mauck and Nick Saban haven’t spoken in 17 years. Shows how big of a douche Saban is, considering Mauck was his 1st Championship QB & is generally known as one of the nicer guys to have come through the program. Makes me even more thankful that we have Coach O running the program now.

To some extent, yes. But I can understand the frustration of a former player from that team may have
I get the frustration but he only ever blames it on Miles and the gameplan completely ignoring the fact the o line got their arses beat. A bad gameplan is no excuse for getting beat at the line of scrimmage And the d line is making the plays. If it was only free linebackers making plays then I get that but the o line couldn’t block the d line. My point is Will is a 30+ year old man now and should have the insight and self awareness to own up to his own mistakes in that game as well.

He only extended it one more time after that game it was in 2012 after the Arkansas rumors came which extended the contract to 2019. In Alleva’s defense at that time Les was a year removed from a National Championship appearance and went 10-2 the next year with a ton of offensive talent returning. I don’t necessarily agree with the extension to out dual Arky but I understand why they did it.

But the ever stubborn Les refused to change is risk averse approach
I agree with pretty much all you wrote except for this. I used to think it was stubbornness by Les. However, I honestly think Les was not capable of doing what needed to be done. His whole career at LSU was a like watching a tightrope act. He wobbled his way thru most of the time but was a one trick pony. In his last few years he was so fat and happy (and rich) being the LSU coach that he didn’t see the need to change. He was just going to stay on the ride for as long as he could. The whole thing truly sickened me. He was in over his head and I think everyone knows it. I would not call that stubbornness.

Getting the two best teams to play is more important than “let’s make sure there isn’t a rematch” imo. the two best teams played for the title. Bama won.
