Why year after year JJ can’t get a solid bullpen from top to bottom.

We had a great bullpen in 22 and a good pen in 23 so your statement doesn’t hold water.

This board spent most of 2023 trying to fire Wes Johnson.

Didn't Jay take over pitching in the tourney or really late in the season? I know he took over mound visits.

The pen wasn't great in 23. We lost a few arms to injury during the season and really just held on to win some games.

Postseason? They were solid.

In the postseason, yes

Regular season was rough at times, especially the last couple weekends.

Because Jay Johnson DNGAF about pitching! Never has and Never will! He is an offensive minded Coach. Plan A-Z is score 7+ runs and hope for the best!

That’s what the Vols were saying about Vitello when we came back from 3-0 in the bottom of the 9th yesterday.

I believe it’s because most of these guys have been recruited on baseball metrics and not their ability to “pitch”. Guys with elite velocity and spin will be recruited over lower velo/spin, and I guess coaches feel like they can refine them into strike throwers. In many cases there is improvement over time, but it’s rare that guys show up with control, let alone command. There’s a reason guys like Cowan go to smaller schools and prove themselves as a pitcher before getting a bigger opportunity.

That’s baseball people. You have slumps and then you get out of them. It happens routinely in baseball. That goes for pitchers and hitters. You hope that one doesn’t go cold with the other. Right now both are a little cooled off. It may or may not pick back up. We have a solid team, but it could be better for sure. We are playing really good teams right now, so they want to win these games just as bad as LSU. The bats will have to come alive to win this series today. I think it’s time for them to get together and say, it’s now or never and go out there to take this game today. We have the better arms locked and loaded for today’s game. It’s the walks, wild pitches and hit batters that are killing us right now. We have to stop giving free bases to these good teams, period.
