When was the eye first introduced?
The Eye was off-centered for a few years because the entire field was painted un-balanced, with more space in the back of the South EZ.
So, these idiots in the LSUAD decided to paint the Eye in between the 45 and 50 to make up for that.
Hardly anybody noticed the uneven space in the EZ's, but everybody noticed (Including the millions watching on TV) that the mid-field logo was not centered on the 50 yard line. (This made the LSUAD look like Flying Monkeys)

Look where the eye is, now picture the whole tiger head there, now do you get it? One mean looking eye peaking out looking at everyone.
This is stupid. More stupid than just screwing it up.

Now this sounds like the most plausible answer. Thanks.

Both equally dumb, tbh.

it was offset in the 80's under Arnsparger also.

Going through YouTube, looks like the eye was offset in 1984, 1985, 1991, 1992, 1994, and 2000. Eye in middle of field since 2001. Oddly enough, eye looks to be in the middle of the field in 1986.

The really need to make sure they get a person who knows what they're doing to paint the eye though. For some games over the past few years it looked pretty terrible

OK, now that's just really weird then.

It was intentionally done to line up perfectly in the "S" during pregame band formation.

That's because there is no stencil, which is ridiculous, and the guy that used to do it isn't there anymore. I hate that it can change week to week. The newest guy adds in those "streaks" around the perimeter, which, if you're reading this, field paint guy, look terrible.

That video was fun to watch! Great memories of the giant awakening. Fans were so hungry for a winner!!

The only thing I can come up with is if the entire tiger face was centered on the 50, that the right eye would be between the 45-50, and the left eye would be between the 50-45, so they initially painted it that way?
I dont think so because the 50 runs through the corner of the eye so it would not be a centered face. I dont have any better idea other than somebody f'd up and needed a Snickers...

It was the year football started. Cut'em some slack.

Man I miss those days when the crowds were absolutely electric.

They first did it in the mid 80s, either 83 or 84. It was always off center back in those days.

That stadium was LOUD
Before big money priced out the old schoolers and blue bloods. It will probably never be that loud in there again.
I'm glad I was there to see it. Now I get yelled at to sit down all the damn time.
