Why was the Eye at midfield offset in 2000?

Was watching the replay of the Miss St game from 2000 on ESPNU last night and noticed that the Eye was centered between the North 45 and the 50 instead of right on midfield. Link to video below. You can see it right at the 2:35 mark of the video.

Just looked at some other clips from that season on Youtube and saw the same thing. Anyone know why they used to offset it like that instead of centering it right on the 50 like they do now?

The only thing I can come up with is if the entire tiger face was centered on the 50, that the right eye would be between the 45-50, and the left eye would be between the 50-45, so they initially painted it that way?

Yeah I think it was something along those lines.

2000 was the first year it was brought back, so maybe they just screwed it up? LSU was at the 50 yard line in the 90s.

That was a Dinardo thing, 90-94 had the eye and I believe it was offset then also.

This is how all teams paint their logos. Don't you watch sports?

I liked it between the 45-50 off set, like the other eye was missing.

It was done on purpose.

15 y/o LaBR4 thought it was cool.

Thanks for everyone who provided an answer. I know this wasn't breaking news, but I was curious. I figured someone on the Rant would know or would have had a legit sauce; you know, like their cousin's wife's brother's next-door neighbor was friends with the guy who's son was a band member at the time and thinks he remembers talking to the grounds keeper.

I believe it had something to do with the 50 yd line having to be easily visable and/or run continuously across the field. The artist didn't want the white 50 yd line running through the middle of it and messing up the look. At some point they figure out a way to center it with the line or the rule changed.

Yes, they did initially paint it that way. But, the question is, did the intentionally paint it that way?

They didn't want the 50 yard line crossing through the middle of the eyeball itself

Look where the eye is, now picture the whole tiger head there, now do you get it? One mean looking eye peaking out looking at everyone. Come on guys. Think!

It wasn't a Dinardo thing. When Dinardo was coach it was the block lettering.

That's what I said. The other poster said "LSU" was there in the 90's but it was only during Dinardo's years. The first half of the decade was also the eye.

Dinardo thought "LSU" was good advertising for recruits.
