He’s the Dabo Swinney of college baseball without the winning
It is one thing to be a sanctimonious goober...like Dabo is. But he doesn't interject himself into the play on the field. THAT is why there is hate for Mingione. I suspect just about every baseball coach, at all levels, would agree it is beyond chicken shite for a base coach to try to effect a play of the opponent by either shouting out wrong cut-off signals or, IIRC from that series, "accidently" getting in the way of an opposing player trying to catch a pop-fly in foul territory.

Hanover was going to throw home when all of a sudden he heard a voice yelling '2-2-2-2,'" Mainieri said. "It was their first base coach yelling that. There's no rule against it in the rule book, but there's an unwritten rules in the game of baseball.
Is this much different than coaches in the dugout and the first base coach pointing to foul territory behind first base to trick the runner into thinking he can get to second on an overthrow?
Edit: Sorry -- not thinking. First base coach on same team.

You do know the first base coach and baserunner are on the same team, right? Why would a first base coach be trying to trick his own runner into wrongly thinking he could go to second on an overthrow?

Yes, because it’s a base runners job to see the ball rolling away before they move to the next base. On a relay throw the fielder can not turn and look at home before throwing the ball. You will never get anyone out like that. A relay man must trust his team mates behind him to verbally let him know whether he is relaying the ball hime or cutting the throw and turning to another base.
It’s the same as a defensive player in footballl barking out “hut”, or whatever, to try and make the offensive players false start.

Very solid write up. I especially liked:

Because he digs a trench around the 3rd base bag everytime KY is up to bat.

I'll have to look out for that. That's disrespectful to the grounds crew.

This can be added to the illustrious list of reasons to hate John Cohen.
I hope during his eulogy someone calls time to walk to the casket stands there until two people ask him to sit down and then does it again.

That tight of a bond btw Jay and Mingione is interesting when you look at their backgrounds as there is no natural connection. Jay has been exclusively a west coast guy until LSU and Mingione in SEC territory his whole career with zero paths crossed.
