Why on earth do people think LSU has some upper hand to negotiate this buyout?

If BK feels like being a nice guy, sure, they can. But he can absolutely just say “frick you i want it all” and LSU would have to do it.

LSU could make BK's life hell with the Greg Brooks story and plenty of room for them to sue him over the buyout with certain language in the contract.
BK takes 1/2 the buyout to walk away in silence or he can fight for it all over the next two years.

Rumor is LSU is agreeing to handle legal fees and potential settlement of Greg Brooks lawsuit. Removing any liability Kelly may have in a potential suit against him

He can get money sooner and not have to worry about mitigation language. Let’s say he takes 30 million lump sum, then he finds a job making 4-5 million/year over 6. Hes made more money over the 6 years then his full buyout would have paid him

Taking a lump sum for the NPV vs getting paid out over the next 6 years isnt doing lsu a favor, its removing the head ache of putting forth a good faith effort to find employment and having to fly to BR every once in a while to pick up checks which is what lsu made les miles do
