Look at the list of All time rushing leaders and tell me how many of them were 5 stars

Nick Brossette 8704 yards *played as an 8th grader 4* and not the highest ranked back in that class from La (Guice-RB, Merrit-APB, Ducre-FB all higher), 11th overall player in La.

Kenny Hilliard 8661 yards 4* Top RB and 7th overall player in the state

Cannot find recruiting info on the following:

Trey Hargrave 8327 Yards *played as an 8th grader

Germaine Williams 8048 yards

Cecil Collins 7833 yards

C.J. Russell 7,769 yards

Anthony Thomas 7594 yards

I think HS stats are always viewed with a grain of salt due to competition and the fact that these kids are all at differing levels of physical maturity. An "early bloomer" can look like a world beater until his peers catch up and possibly surpass him physically.

Been playing for Farmerville since he was in 8th grade.

only a 4 star

Stats don't matter when it comes to ratings. Well they do, but the only stats that matter are your measurables. 5 stars are 100% NFL guys. He's 5'8" 180 at RB/LB and doesn't have elite speed.

He's a heckuva player, but 5 stars are freaks of nature.

thanks, I saw his yards on DD and his video makes him look like Dalton Hilliard....

Hilliard was that size. 5’8 190. Having good speed but far from great speed. He was just a great all around RB. Hilliard and CEH, great comparisons.

Holly is not slow and has been timed at 4.4

He has 27 offers going into his Senior season including Tennessee, USC, USCe, A&M, Ole Miss, Miss State, Auburn, Florida State, Oregon, Arkansas, TCU, Arizona State, Arizona, Oklahoma State, LSU and others. Holly is a big time get.

Union parish is not a small school it is 3A.

3A is a small school on the national level where some states have 6A and 7A divisions.

Seen him on film, seen in person as he ran the ball all over us. He is as advertised. Very good football player, in the playoff this year he played everything on the field except OL & DL and was great where ever he played.

He is not slow at all and has been timed at 4.4. Holly has 27 offers (8 SEC) going into his Senior season.

Here is what On3 says:

Trey Holly was named the Louisiana Class 3A offensive player of the year in both 2020 and 2021. In 2021, he tallied 2,815 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns on 320 carries. Holly also claimed Most Outstandingb by
M Player honors in the Class 3A State Championship Game after totaling 265 yards and two scores. “Trey is a special talent,” Union Parish coach Joe Spatafora said. “He’s got the heart to go along with that ability. He’s already a leader.” When he’s off the field, Holly enjoys playing video games. He lists jambalaya chicken and macaroni as his favorite foods. He plans on majoring in engineering in college. His mother is Tamara Holly. He has four siblings.

Not every state has the same number of high schools as Louisiana. Those larger classifications are likely due to a larger number of schools. Louisiana has 558 high schools within the state, while Alabama has 718. Illinois has 1,292. Basically means that 5A here is equal to 8A in Florida, which has over 2,000 high schools instate. 3A in Louisiana is usually grouped with the large schools. Like someone else said, Union Parish usually plays top schools every year both small and large. There's nothing watered down about their scheduling outside of some district and early playoff games.

You are looking at this backward. If there are fewer divisions as there are in Louisiana then 3A in Louisiana would be like a 4A or 5A in other States.

Louisiana could easily break into 6A & 7A. Instead LHSAA decided to have Public and Select and crowns 8 or 9 High School Champions. Levels are based on enrollment and they vary from State to State.

His “size”. Also, don’t pay much attention to stars, have you seen some of the people that run these recruiting sites?! What makes these nerds qualified to claim a player is 5 stars compared to someone who isn’t?

And Bama hasn't offered him. (although it may just be he isn't interested in Bama and that's the excuse).

5 star high school athletes are projected to be NFL first rounders. So there are 32 each year. IIRC about 50% of all high school five stars make it to the NFL.

I don't know how a 5 star is picked....

About 15 yrs ago a QB kid from my old HS in KY got a new HC who installed the spread offense. The team mastered it in a couple yrs and the he broke Tim Couch's national single season passing TD record. Corey Robinson threw 91 TDs and wound up a 3* at Troy State... This was in KY 4A level.

5-stars are not based simply on a player's stats and production. A lot goes into it, and it is a PROJECTION of future NFL draft potential rather than a REFLECTION of high school accomplishment. Obviously, you would project higher future success probability for kids that have done a lot already. That said, here's the description of how 247 does their 5-star evals:

quote:

A five star rating is awarded to athletes who are graded with a 98–110 rating (. 98–1.00 Composite). For the 247Sports in-house ratings, five star ratings are given to the top 32 recruits in each recruiting class to mirror the 32 first round picks in the NFL Draft.

So they are entirely future-draft-pick projections and are limited to the number of slots available in the first round of the NFL draft. Even with a hyper successful college career, it is hard to see a smaller player at a position that is not prioritized in the first round (RB) getting one of those top 32 picks. Not saying it can't happen, but it's not as easy to project as elite QB, WR, DE, OL, DB for those top 32 picks.
