Poche has started Friday's for two years. CPM isn't changing that to start the season. If he keeps winning, he stays Friday night.

Because it worked really well in Omaha.

Because he almost always starts his most veteran starting pitcher on opening night

I disagree with a lot of things Maneri does, but this is not one of them. The large majority of teams throw their ace on Friday to try and get a win. LSU's pitching staff is good enough to throw Poche who is a veteran guy and although is not LSU's ace gives you a good chance to take Friday. Saturdays are now virtually penciled in as wins.If you score two runs in Saturday games you will likely win because no other team in the nation has a better Saturday starter than Lange.

CPM said something to the effect of poche earning the right to be opening game starter. TBD if it remains that situation for beyond opening weekend.

The thing is on a week to week basis, we can go Lange on Saturday and be fine. When you get to Omaha you throw your best and quit screwing around with freaking matchups (something he will never do). A few years back he played the lefty starter because of a mostly left handed lineup and we lost. He needs to nut up and realize matchups aren't always the way to win, it is putting the best players on the field regardless what freaking hand they throw with or which side they swing the bat from when the game is on the line.

Last thing I read was might be back by the SEC tourney. So pretty much done for the year, because can you really trust a guy that hasn't thrown in over a year and a half to win games on the biggest stage in the season? So likely notch him up as a scratch this year.

It worked great in Omaha until about poache's 5 inning.

That was painful to watch. I am hopeful he has improved over the off-season

I doubt we stick to this all year. Paul is just giving Poche a chance to start on his final opening night. I'd imagine once we hit SEC play Lange will be starting on Friday

On the biggest stage you throw your ace and we didn't do that. Sad part, even if we throw Lange game one and win, I think TCU beats LSU twice. Pitching staff was too thin, not enough quality starters. Hopefully one or two guys can step up this year, because we could see similar problems this season.

The only thing I can see happening is Lange becoming the Thursday starter when we begin to play all these Thursday TV games so Posche can remain the Friday guy. I doubted we would stick with it last year too and we still did. I really don't see it changing unless Poche flat out blows it two starts in a row.

Coach said that he knows that this is his last year and he wants to honor him. He has a set agenda for the next few games to honor certain players.

How many teams on our schedule have a better Friday night guy than Lange?

People make this out like it is so hard to comprehend. No, not many teams if any have a better pitcher than Lange. But if Lange goes 9 innings and we can't score a run against their ace then have to bring in Stallings for a sure thing 3 runs given up, its all for nothing. So now you wasted your ace against their ace and lose. Posche is a damn good pitcher who stands a fighting chance on Friday, and now if you win Friday you are almost guaranteed to win the series.
