Part of it is the weekend rotation very likely could be two lefties and Lange, so it would make sense to go L, R, L.

Why give the other team (who WILL be throwing their friday night ace)

You do know other teams do this against LSU rt? Move their ace to Saturday.

Correct and I totally agree with that. In the regular season your rotation really doesn't mean a lot. Every game counts the same and you have to remain conscious of the rest of the season. Post season is final and you should coach every game like it is the last game and worry about the next on when you get there.

Not reading through everything... But it's much harder to face mid-high 90s after facing mid-high 80s with nasty high 70s-low 80s off speed. At least it was when I played... It's really hard to adjust as a hitter to the change in sides and speeds when it's that drastic.

Common misconception is Poche doesn't throw hard. He will be 88-92 and probably closer to the 92 early. But i agree you go lefty 88-92 to righty 94-96 back to lefty at low 80's amd hitters never get comfortable. I think the rest of the year whoever the Sunday guy is and whether he is a lefty or righty will have a lot of say on who starts Friday and Saturday.

It's more poche's offspeed stuff that is the kicker... Actually heard Cannizzaro say he is hitting 90s... But the curve and change coming low 80s and coming across the body or into righties... Lange is hitting mid 90s which is a huge difference even with poche hitting 90. Then you add that 12-6 Lange has and freaking tough to make that adjustment.... Then the lefty on Sunday 8-10mph slower... Don't have a chance to get settled in as a hitter. Better than having 3 guys throwing 95

Since y'all ignored me earlier I'll ask again. The new play by play guy said this morning on radio that Valek is starting Sunday. Is that correct?

You guys are reading way to much in to this. He is starting Poche because he is the veteran and Paul has always gave the opening night start to the veteran starting pitcher. You guys do remember this is Paul Maineiri right? This will not stay like this he is always tweaking with rotation/lineup.

This is most likely the correct answer, and it's likely Lange will end up Friday night starter.

For the sake of argument, however, it is an interesting one. Poche likely will be one of the top starters in the SEC. Not quite elite but solid. I think he is capable of being the Friday night guy should it be set up that way. On the other hand, Lange is going to go deep into games the majority of his outings which should leave the bullpen in good condition through the rest of the weekend.

And...this is why you start Lange

We are gonna lose our opener at home to a Yankee school that isn't even good at basketball anymore.

And at least with Lange he goes the distance so PM can't leave a pitcher in too long.
