I don't agree with it either. CPM said because it's his last season.. I think that's silly. There's nothing wrong with being the #2 starter at LSU, even if you were a senior.
I believe you should throw your ace on Friday. Some people like throwing your best guy on Saturday because it gives you a chance to win the series or at least tie it going to Sunday. That's silly. Why give the other team (who WILL be throwing their friday night ace) any advantage.. Winning game 1 is as important as any and truly sets the tone. Plus, I actually like Poche as a solid #2.. Why not use your beast and almost always get that win against their best, then have a guy like Poche to try to win it against their #2..

I disagree with a lot of things Maneri does, but this is not one of them. The large majority of teams throw their ace on Friday to try and get a win. LSU's pitching staff is good enough to throw Poche who is a veteran guy and although is not LSU's ace gives you a good chance to take Friday. Saturdays are now virtually penciled in as wins.If you score two runs in Saturday games you will likely win because no other team in the nation has a better Saturday starter than Lange.
I rather throw our Ace against their Ace. Our guy is a beast. Especially given the unknown of our lineup this season. I think Poche would be a much better suited #2 guy who can get even more wins vs #2's than #1's.. but it's whatever. I would rather the first game be more of a given against their best and then just needing to win 1 of the final 2 to get the series win.
It's just my opinion. CPM has his.

Anyone know where I can get LSU ringtones?

Starting Glenn over Eades wasn't the brightest coaching moment. I never understood why you wouldn't ride a potential late first rounder (ultimately went in the 2nd).. But still, go with your best.
I like Poche starting on Friday though, he's shown he can go deep into ball games and give it to Lange for the series clincher on Saturday.

I completely disagree with this decision. Lange is far and away the best pitcher on the staff and should start on Fridays.

The new play by play guy was just on Monroe's ESPN station and said that Valek is starting Sunday. Is that right?

You people will find anything to bitch about. Just watch the frickin game and stop making meaningless threads

While I have no problem with Poche starting today, it's not a meaningless thread. It's a topic being discussed by many of the fans. Don't be a bitch.

Poche is no chump. He didn't have his best season last year but there is a real possibility that he has an amazing 2016. He has the talent to be a Firday night starter on every single collegiate baseball team
Posted on 2/19/16 at 8:12 am to TheBadgerOfHoney
Because that's the order that PM wants them in for now.

I see what you did there
Posted on 2/19/16 at 8:16 am to mylsuhat
yeah , i think people only remember poche's meltdown in omaha last year.

Obviously the coaches are always going to pump their players, but I've heard that Poche made a lot of progress through the fall. If he gives strong outings on Fridays you're taking 2/3 more times than not. Did he hit 92 on his fastball last year? Because I think Cannizaro said he's topping out there now.

LSU fans are spoiled with Lange. Poche would be the ace pitcher at most other SEC schools. I have no problem with him starting Friday nights because he is going to get a win most times. Then Lange comes in on Saturday and we've already won the series.

We're spoiled with Raunado, Gausman, Nola, Lange...
We are very fortunate. We've seen 4 big league starters on Friday nights at the box over the last few years. Amazing really.

He has picked up some speed and a another pitch, I guess Paul wants to see how it works, in a perfect world this will do really well

You guys are reading way to much in to this. He is starting Poche because he is the veteran and Paul has always gave the opening night start to the veteran starting pitcher. You guys do remember this is Paul Maineiri right? This will not stay like this he is always tweaking with rotation/lineup.
