re: Why I think Clemson is overrated and not as good as preseason media thinks

Clemson is a very good team but I do think they are being overhyped. At the end of the day they finished last season 10-4 compared to LSU's 9-4. LSU has more quality wins (Ole Miss, SCar) than Clemson (SMU).
IDK enough about Clemson to say they improved any position groups in the offseason. All I know is that a majority of their run production is gone from last season.
By position group I view LSU:
OL - down with a lot of unknowns
TE - TBD - Taylor was great, but can a combo of Green and Sharp who looks really good be better?
WR - Up - deep threats/speed and size added
RB - Up - healthy Durham although Williams will be missed
QB - push - I expect a better 2nd year starter in Nuss, but I'm grading simply on additions and subtractions
DT - Up - Return Breaux and McKinley, Guillory healthy, Mitchell is a mountain and Gooden looks good
Edge - TBD - I want to say up because Payton and Pyburn seem more dynamic than Savion and Swinson, but we don't know
LB - Up - Perk at Star to go with Whit and Co. Perk was out of position and out for the last 9 games.
CB - Up - Delaine, Jackson and Pickett are better than anything we had
Safety - Haulcy and Cooley are a big upgrade in talent and experience
KR - up - Brown added to Zavion and/or Anderson should be the best return group in CFB
You could easily make the argument that we got better at every position group except OL and if Atkins can help revive the run game we may be better at least from an OL rush standpoint
Just my opinion, but I think this is the best roster we've had since 2019. They just need to learn to play together and quickly.

The good part about this is let the media think they are good. Get them a #5 preseason ranking. That way when we beat them we'd probably rank 2nd behind whoever wins the Texas Ohio State game. The higher they rank preseason, the better the win seems.

Agree with you on this. Best roster hands down since 2019. How fast can they come together and play as a unit is the question.
First game so you never know what you’re gonna get, would be awesome to see a team prepared and looking physically dominant.

Apparently Stamps actually graded well last year in PFF and was given a 91 overall on NCAAF. Maybe Zy did well too, but the other 4 or so DBs did atrocious. Major Burns and Sage Ryan graded very low.

And it is dropping. Their recruiting has gone down a lot since losing to LSU in the Nati.

Not do their returning production from every other position

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. LSU might end up being the better team that Clemson by the end of the season, but that doesn’t mean we’re not at a disadvantage over them game 1. We saw it last year, when we lost to a team that we were much better than imo.
Clemson has the most returning production in the country, including all of their offensive line, their top 3 receivers, and their QB. That’s a big deal, especially in a game 1. They also took Penn State’s defensive coordinator which should help them utilize all of that talent. It’s a home game for them.
Side note: I saw the stat that since the transfer portal started, the most transfers a team that won the natty took the year before was 9. We took 18 this year. We’ll see if we can break that trend.

I specifically said I was looking at whether position groups were upgraded or not. Returning production has been discussed ad nauseum. They have 80%, LSU has 65%. Are they dramatically better than last season's team that went 10-4, 0-3 vs SEC and beat 1 ranked team by 3? Maybe. IDK
I feel very confident LSU is better as a whole than the 9-4 team last season based on returning starters and the number of projected a starters and depth they got from the #1 portal class.
I could be way off on LSU, but that's what I see and it's starting to become a pretty consistent theme from everything I'm reading and watching.

I've noticed that the preseason polls hype up any team who made the CFP last year and has a returning QB.
Really?
What an astute observation.
Mind blowing, really!

This is your typical LSU fan. You guys are embarrassing. You’ll have some stupid excuse after the game I’m sure of it.

They may be giving them a little bump in the polls to keep them in the top tier. They’re favored to win the ACC which is an automatic playoff spot.

That 73 consist of players who aren't even at LSU anymore.

Okay now do LSU in the exact same categories from last year
Defensive Rankings in FBS:
Rushing Yards per Game allowed
Total Yards per Game allowed
Points allowed Per Game

Fair to say LSU may be overrated as well, no?

I’d argue that depth is just as important in game one as it is late in the season. Game 1 is likely going to be somewhere around 80-85 and humid at kick off.
Absolutely, I was in Columbia last year and it was mid September and it was HOT!! on Aug. 31 even at night - depth will matter.

Hard to say overrated because they got proven players that are projected to be improved. just like how LSU fans think their guys can improve….

it gives you one game to get the kinks out.

The problem is you're looking at last year. They're not last year's team. Just like LSU the assumption is they're getting better with the guys returning. Is Nuss going to take another step? Yes? That's what people expect. Same with Clemson.
This is the best team they've had in awhile. It's the same type of team that beat Saban in NC games. Not only this they got a new DC alongside actually finally going into the portal which Dabo hasn't done. He realized his window and made sure to maximize it this year.

Make you feel better going into this game? You could actually say the same thing about LSU.
