it's not so much in losing, but that big O on score board says it all

I wish we could play them first game of the season. Then climb back up the polls.
Michigan lost to Notre Dame week 1 and everyone trashed them. Now they’re top 5 and can easily make the playoffs by winning out.

Right. Even if you only lose to them they aren't going to drop 2 so you'd lose on the tie breaker every time
Exactly.
So we've now gone from screaming that Miles was underachieving averaging 10 wins a year because he was failing to win the west and compete for titles (translation: beat BAMA) to screaming that not only can we not even be expected to compete with BAMA because their coach it the greatest of all time and they are so much more talented than anyone else, but why are we even worried about competing with them AT ALL?
Look...I realize people keep getting their panties in wads anytime someone mentions the moving of goalposts...but for frick's sake, I feel like I'm the only one here at times that can remember even a few years ago when the expectations for this program were what they were. Either I've got a fricking brain tumor and am misremembering EVERYTHING about the past 10+ years of fan complaints, or this has become an obvious attempt to shift the expectations into something that's potentially achievable for this staff.

You're right. Why even play the game? Why even have a football team? Let's just pack it up baws.

Well for starters, Alabama is in the SEC West
(same division as LSU) so if we can't beat them, we
can't win a championship.

In the words of Ric Flair “you wanna be the man, you’ve got to beat the man! Woooo!”

Alabama out recruits everyone.
The only way to take them down is to scheme them to death and get lucky every few years, we currently do not have the staff that can scheme Bama to a win.

Florida just ahead of LSU
um, you do realize we have more all-time wins, more conference titles, more bowl appearances, same number of NC (wins and appearances)?
so how exactly are they ahead of us historically?
outside of the ten year stretch of the 90s, we have been better than them in every other decade in the 100+ year history of the two teams.

Can we win the SECW and get to Atlanta without beating Bama?

Nobody thought this team would win a title. We lost our QB, RB, and all of our WRs. 10-2 will be a great season and a big step in the right direction
What direction is that?
Playing for 2nd best and getting shut out again by Bama next year in Tuscaloosa?

No, you're 100% right.
Les Miles never got the benefit of the doubt because he was a weirdo from Ohio.
Orgeron gets the benefit of the doubt because he a baw who talk like a baw.
Sad, but true.
I brushed a lot of that talk off over the past two years, figuring fans just wanted to support their favorite team, but it's clear some fans have more loyalty to the 'he's one of us' coach than the program's long-term success.

We went from fans booking their flights and hotel rooms for the National Championship to fans wanting to fire anyone and everyone involved in the LSU football program in about 4 hours.
I've always wondered, hypothetically, since most fans measure Bama as whether a season or coach is successful or not, if LSU had beaten Bama this year but lost to say Mississippi St and Auburn would that be a successful season?
I mean Bama is the only team on the schedule that matters...

quote:Its not just the fanbase, its the players and coaches. O said that beating Alabama is why players coome to play at LSU, they put all of what they have into that game. I didn't think it was a smart way to put that because having just lost to them is sound and humiliating defeat really makes it look and feel like the season is a total failure, regardless of reality.
Why does fhe fanbase hold the Alabama game as the success defining moment every year

Nothing but stone cold truth in these posts

This.
I love the way the CheeriOs disregard his words like this yet also claim he is this straight shooter who always tells it like it is.

Nobody expected us to beat them before the season but we when actually lose to them it’s like we had no idea it was coming.

The SEC teams that have beaten Alabama have done so in the front to middle part of the season, Ole Miss, A&M. They don't allow Saban to have two weeks to prepare for them. We need to get away form always allowing this to happen. It is probably the most important reason we get shut out besides talent.
