LSU has had funding problems since the 1960s for a myriad of reasons. Many great professors have come to LSU with good ideas of improving academics and the the university facilities only to have their faces pushed down into the mud. A couple of cases come to mind: LSU was to have a part in the Super Conducting Collider that was being built near Waxahacie Texas. This failed when Japan pulled its' funding.Hundreds of hitech jobs were lost. Then CAMD and its' research park was to be built. In the end only CAMD was built but the research park became Whole foods and some restaurants. Thousands of hi tech jobs were lost because of short sighted and functionally retarded people. It is a waste that the area north of LSU between I-10 exist in they way it does. The Board of Supervisors and the state should buy this land and create a true LSU research park. This would boost both the economies of the city and the state and would slow the out flow of our best minds out of the state. Go Tigers!

The gorgeous oak tress all over LSU are like no other place
yes the trees are gorgeous. Maybe start teaching classes under their stately boughs? Of course, that may be an acquired taste. A lot of students prefer comfortable, convenient seating, desks, lighting, air conditioning, WiFi, smart boards, etc.

LSU is the only SEC school that raises more money for athletics than academics. Endowment growth over the past decade is better than only Ole Miss

And one of the very few that doesn't use State/Federal funding for the Athletic Program.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Louisiana needs to stop using its funds for getting students to stay in school, work on rebuilding the schools, and making it overall cheaper to go to them.

Don’t you recall when Jindal was in office how budget cuts forced the campus buildings and grounds maintenance department to operate with the bare minimum?

Don’t you remember with a do nothing Legislature and a constitution that requires a balanced budget yet only gives the Governor the power to cut Education and Healthcare forced him to do it?

LSU has def made some improvements in recent years (animal and food sciences, new dorms, PFT, etc.) but some of the buildings need to go (Locket, some of the buildings near Tureaud, etc.)

its the trees though that make the campus great

Because LA is poor and those with a lot of money and power are completely corrupt.

The LSU library is a knock down. Many of the buildings on LSU need a facelift.Just walk to the stadium on the north or south side and look at the horrible condition some of the buildings - exposed rusting pipes can be seen , old rusting metal work-you don’t see any of that on the Alabama campus. When I was on that campus I was jealous.

We always make it a point to visit college campuses when we travel. You want to see a dump? Hit Georgetown in DC. They have two beautiful old buildings and the rest is a red brick dump. Vanderbilt isn't anything to write home about either. Keep in mind that the people responsible for cleaning these campuses all work for the govt. Imagine an entire group of people with the work ethic of the lady at the DMV.

You do realize that both Vandy and Georgetown are private schools, don't you? Govt has nothing to do with it. Take your anti-govt rant to another board..

Bobby Jindal and the La. GOP cut funding to LSU by 40%.
That’s why we look underfunded.
We ARE underfunded.

LSU is one of the most poorly-run institutions on the planet. Their administration purposefully diverts money from maintenance and keeping up the university's appearance in order to claim poverty at the legislature and push for tax and tuition increases to add more administrative bloat. No matter how much money you give them, they never maintain shite. They just want things to fall apart so they can justify asking for even more money. LSU's budget has increased every single year, even through the whole Jindal budget crisis, yet they constantly act like the sky is falling.

If you want to see where the private money has gone, check out the new Patrick F. Taylor Hall at LSU. It's absolutely breathtaking.

LSU already blows through a billion dollars a year. Anything that’s neglected on that campus is neglected on purpose by greedy, entitled academic fat cats.

Our athletic facilities are the best hidden gem in the NCAA.

ETA: When I donate to TAF I would rather the money benefit an athlete from an underprivileged household than give to a self loathing a-hole professor who is practicing Social Justice.

I'll never forget when I brought my best friend who was an A&M alum to visit LSU campus. We drove through the north gate on Highland and the immediate response was..."This campus is so beautiful!" Never knew why the reaction was so strong until I visited A&M!

So, we're pretending to be underfunded?
That's rich.
And you are an idiot.
