Yeah, that's a pretty fricking ignorant thing to say. You don't love LSU, I don't care how much of a fan of its athletics you claim to be.

Don’t need to be an a high horse to see a horses arse like you.

You can be a fan and not go to LSU, but if you think the team is more
Important than the school than you’re not a fan.

Ok I’ll be sure to pass on this knowledge to others so they know it too. I’ll be sure to also tell them to contact sammytiger if they have any questions about what it takes to be a true LSU fan.

Most of the best LSU players didn't/don't graduate, so you certainly don't have to be a graduate to be a fan. Most of the coaches have no LSU ties before they come here. My job pays me six figures and has nothing to do with my degree. I have more thanks to give the Marine Corps than LSU. I can thank LSU for the student loans though!

What makes a fan a TRUE fan is never wavering from cheering for the Tigers every time they take the field or court.

SemperFi Laman1978. Your take on coaches and players is exactly what I was coming to post.

And most of then wouldn’t be LSU fans if we stopped paying theme

In fact they would actively oppose the team is some other school paid them

So how would you feel if someone who has never been in the Corps walked around wearing Marine clothing, chanting "Semper Fi," and talking about what it's like...?

Oh, and then called a Marine a failure if he made a mistake under pressure and booed him?

Cheering for the team is different from acting like you've played for them.

I probably wouldn't give a shite. The media and liberals gave me a pretty thick skin concerning Marine Corps related issues. I'd probably say "frick it" and play Grand Theft Auto on my PS4.

No one is saying non graduates can’t be true fans.

But it is different as a grad. The Alma Mater has meaning. We care about the University and it’s image.

We want to win, but how we win is important as well. Don’t want Sean Salisbury, Hugh Freeze nor convicted felon Derek Ponamsky representing LSU.

LSU is an institution of higher education first.

In sports, grads want the best, most accomplished coaches we can get as HC and Assistants.

I certainly can’t speak for all fans. Nor all grads.

Specifically to O, I can say that among my circle of friends and family, none who have undergrad and advanced degrees from LSU wanted O as coach.

Only a handful of my LSU grad friends wanted him.

Of my friends who never spent a day in class at LSU more than half wanted O and think he will be great.

It’s different.

Well first of all I am completely against belittling players because they make mistakes. Obviously any fan gets upset to a certain extent.

Calling another Marine a failure if they made a mistake? Hell that would be a lot nicer than what I was called when I screwed up.

Maybe a better metaphor is, if you walked into a bar and struck up a conversation with another Marine, would you possibly have a better conversation than with someone who never was in the service?

My problem isn't with non-alum, it's with people like trout who have some resentment for not having been there.

Football is fun, but some people get angry at college student athletes.

My girlfriend is from Brazil and doesn't even understand the game, but she wears her cute little LSU jersey, cooks me chicken wings and cuddles with me during the games. She cheers when I cheer. I sure as hell don't question her fanhood! LOL

Yes, I'd definitely have a better conversation with a fellow Marine than someone that didn't serve.

People that resent not having done something are definitely annoying. I agree with you. People should just cheer and have fun! It can definitely be taken too seriously sometimes.

And that's the RIGHT attitude to have.

That's when you say, "We're all tigers now!"

How do you figure I have resentment from not being there?

You’re way more of a fan than I am and I went to LSU. Wife, kids and business came
along and LSU athletics just isn’t that important anymore. I’ll watch the games if I’m free and maybe catch a game if they come to Nashville, but that’s about it.

I have kinda gone down the same path. Work and a new baby coming soon takes most of my time. I in no way would call myself a die hard. I do watch but now it’s mostly just for a reason to get together and cook, drink, and catch up. Whether they get 5 wins or 10 wins it’s really not that important to me. Their success or lack thereof doesn’t change my life.
