Why do you have to be a graduate to be a true fan?

I hear the bull shite line of calling people t-shirt fans. Or they probably didn't even go to LSU.

I have had 4 season tickets for years and season rv passes. I also donate to TAF every year. But i didn't attend LSU.

And all my friends are die hard fans and they didn't attend either.

Why do some people consider us less fans than graduates?

I attended LSU but didn't graduate there and I'm about as die hard of a fan as anyone

I think some people feel like they have a bigger connection to the university if they attended there and I can kinda get that

Someone once asked me why I was a bigger LSU fan than a Saints fan. My answer was simply that I had a connection to the university since I went there. You can't get that same type of connection with an NFL franchise unless you worked for them in some capacity.

Never heard people say this ever. You hear it for Bama fans mostly because you never meet a Bama fan who actually went to school there.

You don't. I was a LSU fan when I was a kid. Obviously I hadn't gone to school there yet. I have 2 degrees from LSU but that doesn't make me more of a fan than you.

If you're from Louisiana it's hard not to root LSU. Gotta rep your state!

Truth is without fans like you LSU wouldn't have any funds to be competitive. I would argue your tickets/passes/and donations make you more of a fan than a lot of people who graduated from LSU.

However, I did graduate from LSU..and I have to admit I get really annoyed when people with no connection to LSU act like obnoxious fans both on an off campus.

We earned something you didn’t I suppose

I don’t look down at fans based on that however. If you love LSU and offer support, then you’re worthy.

Extenuating circumstances sometimes. Like maybe you hold an advanced graduate degree from the school but things happened.
Or maybe they messed up scoring tests. Who knows?

Am I doing this the right way?

I’ve heard it from a few people and it’s really stupid if you ask me. I think they say it just to make themselves feel better.

It's a "no true scotsman" thing.

A: "All LSU fans graduated from LSU"
B: "My dad is and LSU fan but he didn't graduate from LSU"

It's stupid. It's like saying you have to work for the Saints to be a fan of the Saints. Or live in New Orleans.

I moved from BR to VB,VA in 1980 at age 11. Have lived in VB ever since. My formative sports years where the late 70's, and I fell in love with LSU. Obviously, I didn't attend LSU, but am a HUGE fan since childhood, and that will NEVER change.

Being an LSU alum doesn't make you the judge of lsu fan worthiness. I graduated elsewhere but am one of the biggest lsu sports fans you'll ever meet.

Op..

Insecure people just want to flex their false sense of superiority over someone to make them feel better.

If you attended LSU and paid into the system, if you donate to TAF consistently, or if you have been a season ticket holder for several years, you have skin in the game. In my opinion this differentiate you from the guy who claims to be a fan but needs directions to the campus. Your money helps keep the program going. The other guy can cheer and yell and scream all he wants from his couch, but that does not help LSU.

I'm a huge saints fan, but don't go out of my way to see a game. I do for LSU, mainly because I went there and the connection is real.

I might feel differently if I was my father. He is an LSU fan, but never went to college. He is also a huge saints fan, but they became a franchise when he was a child.

I was born into being a Saints fan even with their perennial suckage. Them winning a Superbowl was something I never thought would happen.
