Kiffin wanted to come here but AD decided to hire BK instead. Still would take LSU job if available.

It would be over the life of the reamining contract term, so we'd essentially be paying $20 million+ annually for a head coach over next 6 years.

$9 or so million for Kelly plus the $10-$11 for new head coach.

How much will we lose if we retain him as he continues to crash and burn?

Probably not that much at all

Do you think after Matt House and Joe Sloan that BK will suddenly “get it right” with coordinator hires?

Kelly turned it around at Notre Dame after 2016, so he could theoretically do it at LSU, too.

2016 - 4-8
2017 - 10-3
2018 - 12-1 (Playoffs)
2019 - 11-2
2020 - 10-2 (Playoffs)
2021 - 11-1

This is the most talented team he’s had at LSU and we seem to be regressing every year

Maybe, but also very young and inexperienced at o-line.

How’s he magically going to turn it around in 2026?

The rant has told me for the last 2-3 years that NIL and the transfer portal can cure all in 1 offseason.

Only way we are actually paying it, is if he sits on his lazy bum for 5 plus years

Given his age, and the MANY years he’s been a head coach, that’s very likely.

Cost too much
No decent replacement lined up
Destroy recruiting
The next guy may be 8 and 4 also

Woodward could easily have chosen Kiffin back when he hired BK at that obscene contract. Now, LSU will watch FL hire their Spurrier clone who will kill it with the right resources in Gainesville.
Maybe Woodward can hire Urban at $15 Million for 5 years and also fire BK?

Can't complain about the absurd contract while also complaining that a competitor is offering a more absurd contract to a top candidate. Kelly's contract is indeed absurd. So is the extension that Cignetti just signed. Kiffin's will be even more absurd weather he takes the UF job or reworks his contract with an extension at Ole Miss. After this coaching cycle, BK's contract will be less absurd than it currently is - but it is still too much to realistically buy out when you combine it with a competitive offer (plus buyout) to a top candidate.

Its still money owed. No matter how the payments work, its still an additional check that needs to be cut. I dont like the guy very much either, but i dont think he gets fired until after next year if things are not improving.

2. If we fire him after next season instead of this one, we only “save” around 10 million.

Its 10 million dollars, and you are going to be competing against some pretty big time schools for coaches. You already have Penn State and Florida. Auburn appears to be well on their way also. Not the best time to be coach shopping

He’s not going anywhere until at least 2027

He just needs to fire OC which will likely happen

If he doesn’t then it’s going to be a long slog

It’s paid over several years but, you have to think about paying another staff over those same years, plus nil, plus 20 mill to athletes, plus facilities. And if lsu hires a big time head coach, it will be in the 12 to 13 million dollar range per year.
