The answer I haven't heard?
Nick Saban said not to do it.
When LSU beat #11 Tennessee in Saban's 1st year (could've been another game, but that's one I remember), the fans rushed the field. Later, if I remember correctly, Saban said that he hoped that it would not happen again because LSU would get so used to it that we would expect to win those games.
I'm not sure how long it had been since LSU fans rushed the field before that, but it was a long time after it (certainly after Nick was gone) before they did it again.
Right or wrong, Saban at least renewed the "Act like you've been there" mentality that causes many to hate rushing the field.

Yeah there just is a huge difference in mindset between younger folks like the students these days and the older generations

The older folks still think storming the field should only be reserved for up and coming program wins like Vandy over Bama

The younger folks couldn't give a shite about that and just want to storm the field after a big exciting win

The older folks better just accept it and stop bitching about it because it isn't going away anytime soon

TLDR: if you’re a fan and upset about LSU rushing the field after a win over a rival in very specific circumstances, you need to get the stick out of your arse

I am not upset at all but understand why the cost could be a concern.

I never see an issue with it. Second time we have stormed the field during an Ole Miss victory because of the crowd impact on the game. Funny it was 10 years ago in 2014 last time we did it.

Crowd made an impact in the game so I see no issue with them storming the field. However, Ole Miss is not normally the team you would storm the field for so I get peoples point because if our program was to that ELITE level we wouldn't have stormed the field.

Never stormed the field in 2019 for good reason.

Yep...4 whole games in fact!

The students rushed the field and tore down the goal post when LSU beat 3-5 (unranked) Alabama by 2 four games after they rushed the field after beating Tennessee.

After that it was a long time until it happened again...just over a whole year! Fans rushed the field after LSU beat Auburn to win the West in 2001.

Saban was the HC for both games

Should be reserved for a monumental win. Not beating a team we have beaten 8 times in a row at home. It’s called acting like you’ve been there before. It’s weak, to storm the field for a regular season win over a team of the same or less caliber but then again kids these days are weak, classless, and care more about posting a Tik Tok of them yelling STTDB in front of 100K people rather than respecting the game, tradition, and culture

A game like this I have no issue with the students rushing the field. However the drunk middle age guys should keep their asses in the stands.

It used to be reserved for huge games and championships. Now it is too common.
That said, I don’t get upset. I stormed the field Saturday.
At least that’s what I am telling people. I actually walked through the open gate 10 minutes after the game as they were trying to usher people in the other direction.

I guess because us old timers find it embarrassing to storm the field over a team that hasn't won anything of note in over 60 years, and seldom win in Tiger Stadium, let alone at night. JMO

I was there, but I did not storm the field.

HOWEVER...

I can totally understand why they did.

1. The environment was absolute chaos all game long.
2. LSU did not lead in any point during regulation.
3. LSU won on a walk-off TD in OT.

These 3 elements, alone, can cause a group of rabid fans to storm the field. People in that stadium were caught up in the lore of Death Valley.

There is no reason why they should not have stormed the field.

What better way to celebrate 100 years in Death Valley than beating your long time hated rival on a walk-off TD, and celebrating on the field???

Also, next time will cost us 500k. They made a rule change last year. The new cap is 500k.

People are emotional little creatures who are always ready to give their opinion. It’s cute.

The atmosphere definitely deserved a field rushing; however, I think this could all be avoided if LSU would just come out and said 5 minutes after the end of the game all students will be allowed on the field to celebrate if we win. I think celebrating on the field after a big win is awesome. But there is a right way to organize it. Our fans do not need to be anywhere near opposing teams players after they lose to us, its just a recipe for disaster. It will also help us avoid a fine.

Every year designate one home game students are allowed to celebrate on the field for after a game.

Why would you rush the field?

On a side note...I gave Paul Skenes 2 copies of my book yesterday.
