It just looks cheap.

What in the frick?

It's a baseball stadium. The old Box was built using WPA money, and was basically poured concrete. Does it get any cheaper than WPA concrete? What made the stadium was the team, not the aesthetics of the park.

When did everyone get the fricking queer eye?

I'll probably get down voted for this but, to make it a real hone field advantage, y not make the tigers bull pen, in the outfield, just beyond the wall, and keep the visitors bull pen right where it is next to the fans, so they can be heckled. That would be a real advantage to me.

It's tacky and a liability. Florida has cool ones in the outfield where they can also watch the game through fiberglass.

Because they look cheap, stupid and are an unnecessary danger.

I like being able to make fun of the pitcher's mother before he goes out on the field. But I get why it's top on JJ's list. From a fan perspective there's many things that we should value more.

why only lsu players?

Because we practice on the field all year long and should be experienced dealing with it.

because the bullpens can easily be relocated outside the field of play.

Easily? Where are you going go put them? Under the left field and right field bleachers?

I also seem to recall at least one play this season where a popup in the bullpen area was not caught by an LSU fielder because the opposing players were a distraction to the fielder as he tried to avoid them. They were maintaining their position so were not considered as interfering under the rules.

Alabama. And if the bullpens weren’t there the bleachers would be closer to the field and then ball would have been 4 rows deep. So came result.

Does LSU practice in Alex Box or do they have a practice facility? I am not sure I know the answer to that.

Do they have an indoor faculty with batting cages and bullpens, yes. But the team is practicing outside 98% of the time the weather is manageable. You can’t intrasquad inside. Think about the first week or two of a season when we invite northern teams down to play and we know we have a huge advantage because they can’t practice outside that early in the season.

Yes there is room to configure it out there. They already have plans drawn up for it to be done.

What I was wondering is if they practice at the Box or if they have a separate outdoor practice facility so as not to tear up the field practicing. Because I really do not know how that is done in college baseball these days.

You’d have to eliminate some of the Diamond Deck in RF and HR Bleachers in LF but it can be done.

I don’t think reducing capacity is a bad idea either.

They use the Box unless they are playing somewhere with turf (Oregon regionals) and then they practice on the U High field behind left field.

I like the on field bullpen location for added home field advantage. Our players know how to navigate the bullpens better. Plus the added fun that the fans get screwing with the opponent pitchers warming up.

I think someone else had the idea of moving home plate back about 8’-10’, which would get the fans closer to the field

THIS! I mentioned that yesterday about the old box. Probably what I miss most about it. We were on top of the batters

As long as you don't enclose them, you can still do this with them in the outfield. Have seen it at a few MLB parks where the bullpen is in the outfield and whenever anyone starts warming up the home crowd starts chirping down at them

Aren’t the bullpens at Wrigley Field still along the foul lines? They used to be down the foul lines at a lot of big-league parks as late as the 1990s. It’s not a big deal.

Of all the things that need improvement at The Box, where the bullpens are should be down the list. Get the fan comfort stuff right first.

The bottom line is the on-field bullpens look cheap.

Our whole ballpark, frankly, looks cheap once you get inside. It looks like a minor league park.
The painted billboards circling the outfield walls.
The high school bleachers in the outfield.

We have a tradition-rich program. The entire college baseball world respects LSU.
But we have a minor league-looking facility.

We need to:
1, Build new bullpens
2, Remove all the colored outfield signs and tell advertisers from now on, they get white lettering on a green wall - No exceptions.
3, Add something -- trees, preferably -- alongside the new permanent outfield seating construction. The view of Tiger Stadium doesn't inspire anyone (it's the worst side of Tiger Stadium anyway).

No Wrigley moved them several years ago.
