The players hate it, the coaches hate it, the fanbase hates it. It is that simple. The players hate it which is all you need to know. It is not that much of an advantage that you are making it out to be.

It's too much like a Minor League facility with no flair.

Yep...At the time it was built, it was nicer than most Minor League parks. But it has ZERO flair for a college town like LSU, and has been passed up by many SEC schools.

Bertman went cheap like always.

First, it’s not a bullpen. It’s a pitchers mound and a plate on the side of the field.

I’ve had season tickets since ‘91 in both stadiums directly in front of the opposing bullpen. I like it as we can get banter going with them.

The bullpens on the field represent yet another thing Tiger "fans" can bitch about.

More than more than any thing else, they love to gripe, complain, whine, and moan.

Nothing thrills them more, not even a National Championship, than a good bitch session, especially regarding matters over which they have no control.

Even if the risk is small, it's an unnecessary risk because the bullpens can easily be relocated outside the field of play. And I don't think it provides so much of a homefield advantage to justify it. Is it the #1 feature that should be changed? Not in my mind. But it's not unreasonable to think that it should.

So is having an extra nipple, but no one really likes having three.

The only redeeming quality is it gives a few guys something to go do and try to keep the guys warming up from getting knocked out by a line drive foul ball.

And you came here to....bitch about other fans bitching.

I don't like it but it is there. If they change it I would be pleased, if they don't, they don't, and no skin off my back. I am not offended by things I don't like, are you?

I do have some issues with things in your post.

And if you say it’s an “injury risk”, please make the list of all the LSU players injured by the bullpens since the stadium opened in 2009.

Just for the record, are you saying having a pitcher's mound in foul territory is not an injury risk?

quote:

And let’s not forget that Gavin Dugas got injured diving for a ground ball, Tommy White got injured diving back into first base, several pitchers have suffered arm injuries. I don’t think our infielders are going to stop diving for balls, our base runners aren’t going to stop diving back to first base, and our pitchers aren’t going to stop using weighted balls and long tossing.

This is classic deflection, albeit pre-emptive

Those injuries are part of the unavoidable risk of gameplay. An on-field bullpen is not.

I believe it’s an advantage for LSU because we practice and play games on that field year around. We should be more comfortable chasing a foul ball near the foul lines than our opponents.

Does LSU practice in Alex Box or do they have a practice facility? I am not sure I know the answer to that.

I also seem to recall at least one play this season where a popup in the bullpen area was not caught by an LSU fielder because the opposing players were a distraction to the fielder as he tried to avoid them. They were maintaining their position so were not considered as interfering under the rules.

I personally have many many fond memories of watching games right next to the LSU bullpen and watching pitchers warm.
Shouts out to Nick Rumbelow. Always loved watching him throw in the pen. Dude could hide the ball for a year before his delivery.

Same lol. Some of my earliest memories of LSU baseball were actually down the third baseline at the old box

I remember being amazed at how hilarious and incredible the heckling of the opposing team was. It was relentless and nobody was safe. The pitchers warming up, the bullpen catchers, all of them got an earful for the entire game.

What a fun environment it was. You could sense when it was getting to some kids and man it was like blood in the water for sharks lol

Idk injury risk, looks JVish, kinda like the net batters eye, just looks bad…. Alex box has falling way behind, metal bleachers are atrocious as well

I prefer it. It gives us a unique field that other teams aren’t used to. If we move them then all that space will be wasted.

If they do move them I hope they pull the seats in towards the baseline.

Because the LSU administration really half-assed the whole construction of the new Alex Box. The bullpens are one of the glaring issues that there was no foresight with the design of the new park. It’s really sad to see about half the SEC with nicer parks than Alex Box. LSU has cheap high school bleachers in the outfield. Pathetic…

THIS. Baking in the sun on hot metal bleachers. The lack of cover is also great when it’s sprinkling.

Green and other non-school colors all over the OF walls.

Playing chutes and ladders to get to the main concourse.

No fan atmosphere for students. Standing room only seats for casual fans who want to catch a game. Ushers who seem to enjoying ruining the fan experience. Nothing beautiful to attract the eye, just red Tabasco bottle and black tarp on CF batter’s eye.

That’s just off the top of my head. There is more. I would change before the mounds. When I first walked in I thought “they tore down Alex box for this?”
