Why do a safety squeeze and not a suicide?

I’ve never gotten this generally. All you need to do with a suicide is just get some
Piece of the bat on top of the ball and hit it down and you’re likely safe at the plate unless it goes foul. Obviously pop up bunts have been an issue this CWS but man I think these guys are good enough to do it in the big moments.
Lucky for us they didn’t want to test themselves like that.

there is a reason the names of those 2 are what they are

Cause if you whiff even if the ball is a foot out of the zone your runner is a sitting duck and you ran yourself out of an inning.

Safety squeeze works 95 percent of the time. It took Tre Morgan making an absolutely fantastic play to barely get that guy out.
Usually you don’t have an athlete like Tre Morgan playing first base.

You can defend a suicide squeeze by throwing at the batter...it's not fool proof

Bunt gets popped up it’s a double play.

Well that sounds easy. I guess every player in baseball can always execute this bunt every time they attempt it.

Because you had a runner at 1st also. Without a super human playing 1B this is almost automatic run if the batter gets the ball down because he has to hold the runner on at 1st. No reason to risk running out of the inning because for the first baseman to make that play is nearly impossible. Yet Trey made it!
Had a normal first baseman been playing he would have been safe at home and you would have runners at 1st and 2nd!

Wake forest did everything right except for bunting it towards 3rd

You run the risk of a pitch you can't hit (often intentionally), a popout, "swing and miss", etc. and the safety squeeze is almost impossible to defend anyway.
Morgan was so good on that play. He was halfway down the line when it was bunted.

I think the odds of a clean whiff on a bunt, especially at this level, have to be relatively low.

A right handed pitcher is going to see the runner start flying. While "changing" the location of a pitch mid delivery is very difficult, intentionally being "lazy" with your follow through and releasing the ball high is quite easy. Now you've got a batter trying to lay down a bunt when the ball is at his eyes.
They made the right call. We made an all time great play. Kudos all around. Just glad we came out on top.

WF played it to perfection. 99 out of 100 they’re safe at home. We just had a dude out there making plays.

Yup
ALL you gotta do is have everything go exactly right to score a run.
I’d rather those odds than a play where the only way you don’t score is if the first baseman makes a one in a million great play

Morgan is probably the only D1 first baseman that makes that play, and maybe a couple of MLB first baseman are capable of that as well. It was a fantastic play, you can't account for it.
