Why didn’t Mett start in 2011?

Jarret Lee was mediocre at best, throwing for a whopping 98 yards against Oregon.

JJ was mobile, but not an accurate passer.

He seemed like the best option of the three, regardless of experience.

His 2012 stats were certainly better than JL’s or JJ’s in 2011, and I don’t believe Mett’s stats in the 2011 season would have been “worlds apart” from his 2012 stats.

If Jordan Jefferson was free of legal troubles and injuries, he was going to be taking snaps.

JJ and Lee were both established seniors and Mett was a transfer who hadn't had the chance to learn our complex offense.

Make sense now?

If we would have played OK State in the title game, nobody would have cared if Mett, Lee, Jefferson or Andrew Hatch had started. It would have been the greatest season ever until this year.

He threw a beautiful ball when he did get in and should have been implemented more but JL was a pretty good leader without JJ looking over his shoulder.

Also that was a TD against Ole Miss.

2011 Bama would have murdered the statue that was 2012 Mett.

Some of you have selective memories. Lee completed 62 percent of his passes in 2011, with 14 TDs and 3 INTs. No he didn't light the world on fire v. Oregon or v. Alabama. He had a 152 passer rating. That's pretty solid.

We had the most efficient QB in the SEC until Miles handed the keys to the dumpster fire that was Jefferson.

Wasn’t he ineligible until 2012 anyway as a transfer?

Who knows, but like you said, his stats in 2012 werent impressive, he was on campus early enough in 2011 for spring game and such, but with JEfferso nand Lee being returning co-starters in a way, I kind of get why they stuck with them on a team that went undefeated up to the title game. As much as I hated Les' offense and some of his choices, hard to really fault him for replacing his returning co-starters at QB on what was to be a 13-0 team with a sophomore from JUCO.

Complex office under Les Miles?

Lee was much more familiar with the offense and he did great up until the 9-6 Bama game. The better question is why Les didn't change QBs at halftime of the BCSNCG, but we have been debating that for the better part of a decade so just let it go!!!!!!!!!!!

Did he? I don’t remember that. I thought he had 3 to play 2 when he got here, but I could be wrong.

Mett came in the spring of 2011 and he outplayed both Lee and Jefferson and that was clear in the spring game. After spring he was still 3rd string and he realized Les wasn’t going to give him a shot so he didn’t prepare during the season like he should and that sealed his fate with Les that year.
