The first pass of the game against Wisky was a rollout.

My buddy seems to think that we have only run the same 7 offensive plays because that is all BH can grasp. As soon as a new QB came in that was more intelligent we saw new and different plays.

Harris had plenty to of 3 WR looks in both games, as well as plays where the TE and RB ran a route. He just chose to ignore them for the most part.

We have a more competent and confident QB in Etling.

Because Danny Etling can progress to a 3rd target.

Or more like Miles took over to save his job.

Funny how Les always gets the blame, but when a change is made, it's never his decision.

We also ran more RB delay draws when Etling entered the game. Haven't seen that since the TCU game in 2013.

It wasn't supposed to be roll-out, but Harris rolling left and trying to throw cost us the game against Wisconsin.

Look, I'm not saying we never go 3 wide, but we are in a 2 WR set A LOT. Even in obvious passing downs. And, we wonder why Harris can't find anyone open.

I am shocked at how often we are in 2 WR sets in this offense.

Etling picked up first downs on passes to running backs and tight ends. It's almost like QBs are allowed to complete passes to those guys or something.

Maybe because what good is another progression when you can't get past the first 2, or ignore anyone who's last name doesn't begin with a D.
Those resources might be better served protecting against twists and stunts.

Because

Harris = dual threat = stay in pocket

Etling = pocket passer = open options up an have him run all over

Jeez don't you know foosball?

Sorry dude. You are wrong. Harris has been in shotgun a lot with 3 WR sets. Jax St he was in those sets until he got pulled.

Same for Wisconsin. People saying they the playbook changed are wrong.

Agreed. It makes you wonder if BH has trouble grasping the offense.

It really doesn't though:

TE Wheel Route out of the gun

Piss-poor blocking on a screen out of gun/pistol:

Hitches out of the gun with the RB releasing:

Hitches out of the I-formation with 2 WR routes:

RB wheel out of the gun/pistol:

PA 2 WR deep routes out of the I-formation:

PA look out of the I-formation with 3 routes:

About the only thing different with Etling was the rolled him to the right out to the shotgun. For whatever reason we tend to roll BH to the left, which is fricking infuriating for a right-handed QB with documented accuracy issues.

BH had 12 out of 26 passing plays run out of the shotgun. Etling has 13 out of 19.

This idea that Etling opens up the playbook or knows the offense better is a myth, at least to this point.

Etling had 3-4 rollouts? I didn't see them. He scrambled a couple of times.

Okay, I rewatched every pass play. Etling had ZERO rollouts and ZERO bootlegs. Twice they moved the pocket about three yards to the right. One was for the out to Chark from the three wide receiver set, and the other was for the throw back screen that hit the defensive lineman. In neither case did the QB run close to laterally. Both times he took a five step drop at a bit of an angle.

When you go three an out constantly you do not get a lot of play selection to begin with.
