Why did O go from "We want pro style qbs" to "dual threat" in a matter of weeks?

It doesn't make sense. Watching his hiring presser, I was a bit jarred and then mystified, because he said in no uncertain terms just a couple weeks earlier, "we are a pro style team and need pro style qbs"--then fully endorses the spread to the point of exclusively "dual-threat" qbs.

I hope he has a master plan. The Brennan de-commit is not good. I wonder if Ponamsky is loading O's lip with what to say. I hope O is not that gullible where he'd say anything to get perceived heavy hitters on his side.

All this seems to imply that the petty politicos and non-football hacks and bush league local media people, after an almost-20 year absence, once again have their slimy paws in the cookie jar of LSU football.

I mean, he can do what he wants. Of course, I thought his strength was going to be being "hands off" and "letting my coaches coach." He sure seems to have his hands on the offense already.

My only point is him publicly stating that he was gung-ho pro-style and then just a couple weeks later, without any explanation, totally spread--does not speak of a HC with a coherent plan, but a HC being a puppet for behind-the-scenes manipulators.

well LSU's got quite the philosophy.... recruit QB's and refuse to play them to their strengths. it makes sense if you dont think about it.

IIRC, in the presser saturday, he said that he learned that the way to go in football is the spread.

May be totally off on that.

This. Kid committed to Bama and Kiffin. If Kiffin is done deal, I am sure O and Lane said let's make him an offer. He may come to LSU.

People can talk negative about O's career but you can't say he doesn't recruit well. There is an end game here.

Serious question, when did he say this? I know this seems to be the thing people keep saying...I just don't remember him saying it. Anyone got a link?

Two different situations. The first time he was coming into it in the middle of the season and having to work with the staff already on hand. You are framing his quote back then in the context of recruiting, and I don't believe he said it like that. He was talking about what he was going to do this season, and it was based on what was already in place.

Now, he is the permanent coach and he has staff changes to make and an off season to make changes to the philosophy.

That's my best guess anyway.

Everyone believes that in order to beat Bama you need DT QB. I think his eyes may have been opened when Etling was a sitting duck in the pocket. DT QB most elite teams have DT now. Bama, OSU, Clemson

The short answer is what someone else (minvielle?) posted in another thread....

Eaux changes his message based on what he thinks the audience wants to hear at the time. Get used to it. Get used to this coming sh*tshow.

From a presser or an interview 2-3 weeks ago. Seemed like the context was stating his philosophy to sell himself for the permanent job.

I watched it but have no idea where it is to link it.

IIRC he said it during the Wednesday radio show a few weeks ago. I can't remember if someone specifically asked but he did say he wanted a pro-style QB

I muse have missed this. The one everyone is talking about was his presser shortly after being named interim coach.

He mentioned running a pro style when he got the interim gig

I took it to mean LSU was currently built to be more successful running pro style with the current roster.

He never said "if I get the job we will run pro style from here on out"

If anything I think this move shows that he knows what he wants to do on offense. Unlike the previous regime
