Was told by a Cannizaro that PM didn't recruit at all at that time

Mainieri would throw players under the bus after a loss. Rubbed me the wrong way.

Seems like a nice enough guy in interviews, and I don’t dislike him, but don’t think he deserves a spot in LSU infamy.

He was like Les Miles. He would not change his coaching style even though the game had changed

Health and family. Lost focus.

But comparison to JJ may be unfair… JJ has the chance to be truly one of the greats

Jay is not delegating recruiting
Paul put it all on Cain
Even Dunn didn’t want to recruit
The pitching was left in shambles
The lack of hitting adjustments was pathetic, case in point, beloso was a shell of himself until Jay fixed him

He got lazy recruiting, partially due to his health.
He went all in on big, hard throwing pitchers that often
struggled to throw strikes. He also offered way to many scholarships
to top 15 and 16 year old prospects that were maxed out physically.
In his last several years almost no players showed and improvement.
They were pretty much as good as they were ever going to be when the
got here.

Paul was dealing with some major health issues. He wasn’t very public about it but it affected his day to day

His dad died and he had health problems at the time. I adored him for what he gave for LSU baseball but it was time. And I guess all he needed was a couple years off and he's of course back at South Carolina. I'm very happy for him.

Define late.

It’s always about recruiting.

So far under Jay it seems like the overall talent level has a higher floor. Mainieri and Cain obviously recruited some studs but a lot of dead weight too.

He is a good coach, but he’s no Bertman Polk Van Horn Corbin Garrido etc. I really think his health and being a lazy recruiter at LSU got him.

Mainieri slipped because he thought he could. Got him run off, nobody is entitled to draw pay and be mediocre, like Nikki Fargas.

I've had players from his last years tell me that he was in so much pain that he rarely came out of his office for practices

Why don’t you read what I wrote?

I read it. You said “Jacob Berry was the best hitter on that first Johnson team”. What statistics or logic are you using to back up that statement?
