I also recall something about Bill’s daughter doing something at UF and then add in all the other rid bits posted here as well.

Broadhead. If you think Aleva or Woodward are\were bad, Broadhead was 10x worse.

Hired Arnsparger, Bertman, Pat Henry, Buddy Alexander, Sue Gunter, etc.

You’re out of your mind. Broadhead single-handedly got LSU into the modern era of college athletics.

No he wasn't! Jerry stovall recruited Dalton Hilliard, Gary James and Leonard Marshall!

Arnsparger was coach while I was there. Those were some good teams and peak Tiger stadium

yes, Arnsbarger pushed Archer when Spurrier was making it well known that he wanted the LSU job. Student and Tiger fans were all behind hiring Spurrier. Years later Spurrier happened to be good enough for Fla but not LSU since he was at Fla. that rubbed LSU fans the wrong way

Both his kids went to Florida. His son ended up being a high school coach near Athens, AL. Bill became a volunteer coach for him after he retired. Bill and his wife, BJ, retired in Athens until Bill passed away.

Bill left in January of 1987. Spurrier did not get hired at Florida until 1990. He was at Duke from 87-89.

Athletic department was in the red when Brodhead was hired. He was a business man and as stated earlier in this thread was ahead of his time from a business standpoint. He made some off the charts hires for coaches. Solved the budget problems. Unfortunately he got paranoid about the NCAA investigating LSU BB. He bought wire tapping equipment from the same guy that caught Edwin Edward’s dirty dealing. Brodhead was trying to catch the NCAA gestapo dirty tactics. He was told to get rid of the illegal wire taps but forgot to remove the microphone from the phone. FBI found the equipment in his office drawer and he denied using it. Unfortunately they found microphone in the phone. LSU put him on a probation and a few months later he was fired due to a more minor issue.

By Bill Arnsparger to you mean Jerry Stovall? Dalton was here two years before Bill.

Better job opportunities

Bill told the media he was getting out of football because “he missed fishing”, I’ll never forget.

sorry for the facebook link

here is the arnsparger saga
Bill left to interview with Florida during fall camp
Just told Mike archer that he wasn’t gonna be there the next day. Archer ran the team while our arnsparger was gone. arnsparger took the Florida A.D. job after the season ended.
brodhead wrote a book called SACKED that was incredible
he went into great detail on Dale Brown, the wire, tapping scandal, the embezzlement from the athletic department, the crooked concessions, and everything else that was going on. The guy was an innovator and he also was a trained CPA. He completely audited the books and cleaned up the athletic department. He had a plan to turn the old Stadium dorms into luxury game day. Suites back in the 80s.
The wire tapping scandal was not a scandal at all, Brodhead had audio taping equipment in his desk drawer in his office. It wasn’t hooked up to anything. He got railroaded out of town because he got sideways with Dale Brown and the BOS

bottom line Bob had a show with a young hanny on WIBR in the 90s that was epic. It was must listen radio every day.

Spurrier wanted the LSU job and Dean just blew him off in favor of Archer
Steve Spurrier had been a college head coach for a whopping 1 season (5-6 record) at that point in his career.
it’s not like anyone knew what he would end up being.

Bill’s staff was also top notch. Half of them had long careers in the NFL.

No
Broadhead was not a Brown fan.
