Bill’s staff was also top notch. Half of them had long careers in the NFL.
Bill left in January of 1987. Spurrier did not get hired at Florida until 1990. He was at Duke from 87-89.
Both his kids went to Florida. His son ended up being a high school coach near Athens, AL. Bill became a volunteer coach for him after he retired. Bill and his wife, BJ, retired in Athens until Bill passed away.
Guidry started and Tommy came in during 4th qtr to try a comeback. Lost 22-10 I think. Should’ve won the Ohio State game.

Saban on Gameday

It will be interesting to see what he says about the job opening. Will he say how great it is and how he regrets leaving or does he say how Kelly shouldn’t have been fired so quickly. Also, I’m sure Lane has discussed the LSU job with him before.
Bill actually interviewed for the Florida job during the 86 season. I was in the locker room after the Tulane game when he announced to the team he was leaving. Players were shocked. He didn’t hire Spurrier until the 1990 season. Spurrier was at Duke from 87-89. Every LSU fan gets this wrong that Bill hired him away from LSU.
Broadhead got paranoid about everything. Crazy thing is that he was ahead of his time with running an athletic department. Wanted to use sponsorships, suites, stopped using the good ole boy network for concessions. He pissed a lot of the locals off and they came after him.
Yes, Bill let the players drive on their own to Memphis and get per diem. This was to piss Broadhead off. One of the coldest games I have ever been to. Players didn’t want to be there and it showed. Outside of Norman Jefferson, game was awful. I think we were suppose to go the old Aloha Bowl. Then Broadhead made the deal to go to the Liberty.
Bill got tired of all the politics and Dale Brown. Also, he and Broadhead had falling out. The Liberty Bowl had something to do with it. Think the team thought they were going a good bowl destination and Broadhead made backdoor deal to go to Memphis at the last minute, which upset Bill. Plus, it didn’t help that Broadhead got busted for wiretapping. My dad was on Bill’s staff. We had to spend Christmas on Memphis and it sucked!
Pretty sure he played under Mike Archer at Kentucky when Archer was a defensive coach.

He had picture from the LSU game on it. I guess it was from his daughter, but still very interesting.

On Lane's instagram story, he had a photo from the LSU game last night. I'm guessing it was from his daughter. Still interesting.

re: Arnsparger--Forgotten era

Couple of things about arnsparger's last year, he and broadhead were on the outs bc of each other's ego. Also, Arnsparger was tired of the good ole boy system and the politics within the university. This is the main reason he left. When Saban and emeritt got here they put a stop to the good ole boy system and I think we have enjoyed the resultsfrom this. I was in the locker room after the Tulane game when he told the team he was leaving. My dad was on the staff then. This caught everyone by surprise. He did recommend archer but it was bc he was trying to help out one of his coaches. Also the team did want archer. Spurrier wasn't hired at Florida until 89. 2 years after Arnsparger had left. Archer's problem was that he wasn't ready and there were internal issues within his staff. And yes there were a lot of issues. The staff didn't respect archer and resented him. From a coaching stand point, Arnsparger was just as good as Saban, in my opinion, but he didn't enjoy recruiting. Half of his staff went on to coach in the pros.

said during bcs pregame on espn radio that if miles accepted mich job, lsu might reduce his buyout. find that interesting if true.
Just came on wsfa news out of montgomery. Taylor is suing school board because is son was not allowed on the basketball team due to his hair. Coach Frank Tolbert says that he does not allow braids on his players. It's a rule that he has had over the years but Taylor does not want to follow. Told Taylor to get it cut. He did not, so family is suing.

He hasn't used one all year. This is a penalty in college. Why hasn't he been penalized?
