Yorke didn’t commit to LSU until after the MLB draft. He was no factor in Larson’s decision.
Larson portal rumors started during the regular season.

He went through a massive slump in ‘25 and was the odd man out between Stanfield, Curiel, Brown, Frey, and Josh Pearson. He wasn’t starting at 1B over Jones in ‘25. No hard feelings, they were all better players. Going into 2026, not a single person on this board would take Larson in OF over Curiel, Brown, or Stanfield. Hindsight 20/20 Larson could have filled in when Stanny and Brown injured, but he wouldn’t have stayed at LSU in that case.

He left before the 2025 season. He wasn't going to bump Jones or Frey or Curiel or Brown or Stanfield. So he left.

Interesting. Did he not do that at LSU last year and actually win the CWS?

I remember the conversations before the 2025 season where people were debating whether the starting right fielder should be Jake Brown, Ethan Frey, or Ashton Larson. A lot of people were saying Larson because of how he hit in SEC play towards the end of the year.

I remember being criticized for saying that I preferred Brown or Frey because of the power potential, and we had an obvious power deficit. Up to that point, neither Brown, nor Frey had hit a lot of dingers, but it was obvious to me that Larson had a much lower ceiling than either Brown or Frey at that point.

Not Mason Braun. Lawson is an average fricking player. He outperformed his freshman year. He hasn’t done shite at Texas this year.
