re: Why can't LSU force ticket holders to use their tickets?

This is nonsensical fallacy crafted by indolent asses to justify their laziness. OF COURSE the decision not to attend games or to leave early affects others. By necessity, it incrementally diminishes home field advantage. By necessity, it incrementally reduces the noise in Tiger Stadium. It erodes the mystique and reuptation of Tiger Stadium in the eyes of visiting fans. It diminishes the gameday experience for other more loyal LSU fans and players, all of whom are actually willing to do their part to uphold the proud tradition of Death Valley. And moreover, as demonstrated as recently as Saturday, it results in negative comments on national television. Make no mistake, your self-serving laziness does indeed have consequences.

My point being that the people who can afford those Gold seats aren't on any waiting list to begin with.

LSU gets paid whether there are butts in the seats or not. The tickets were already paid for prior to the game so why should they care if anyone attends the game...they made their money regardless!

Its not like every ticket not being used is not trying to be sold. There are plenty of tickets on stub hub, ticket market place, ebay, etc. that are for sale. I know someone who bought tickets to this past game for face vaule on ebay, so there are affordable tickets out there. It's not on LSU if they arent sold.
If the AD knew there would be a whole section of students MIA they would have sold them to the public, like they have done in the past.

Rather than jumping on the OP, he does bring up an interesting point that I brought up this weekend.
I park an RV in Touchdown Village. I know there are many people with RVs who would love to bring their RV to games but can't because they can't get a pass. It is easier to get season tickets in your name than it is to get an RV pass in your name. My observation is this. Touchdown Village was maybe 75% full last weekend, and for lesser opponents the percent is much less than that. I know many parking spots that haven't been used in years. So....I get that you can't force somebody to use their season tickets or passing pass, yet I think of the guys who would use either but can't.

That wasn't my position.
It won't 'solve' the problem, but at least it's a start. There are too many habitual no shows while other fans are begging for season tickets or upgrades.

It's funny how we have attendance problem as soon as LSU changes the parking policy. I think one thing people do not take into account is people often times sell off/buy tickets on game day around campus. A lot of people use to show up with the intention to just tailgate, but then would buy tickets pregame or be given them. Those people, thanks in large part to new parking policies, are more and more discouraged from coming in town to tailgate and possibly buy tickets/occupying a seat. I think that has a lot to do with empty seats. I also think the new student ticket policy and how strict they are on usage of IDs has hampered student section attendance.

As the other poster above wrote, empty seats reflect poorly on the football program.
Plus, it does make a financial difference because less concessions are sold.

I give the folks at the AD's office a bit more credit than that. They are certainly paid to watch the "bottom line," so they would like a packed stadium if only to increase concession sales, but they also understand the non-economic value of a full house ("12th man," enhanced national media attention, influence on recruits, etc., etc).
Other than when I was a student and for a number of years in the early Bertman years when I had great baseball season tickets, I have never had season tickets to any LSU sport. I manage to get to a number of baseball, football, basketball, soccer, etc. games each year. My work and family life prohibits me from making every football game, but I do buy/receive great lower bowl tickets to 2 or 3 games a year (I really do not like watching games from the upper decks).
One suggestion that I do not think I have seen in what seems like hundreds of threads about this issue is the basketball ticket option of a small package of games. Not that folks would likely ever give up their football season tickets, but if they reduced the student section, would it make sense to create multi-game packages for those relatively good seats? A couple of "lesser" games packaged with at least one "must-see" game would likely be of interest to many folks. You are apt to see more fans in the seats if they only have the option of catching 3 or 4 games a year.
Oh, and I do like the OP's idea of "use 'em or lose 'em."

You have a knack for avoiding the substantive issues raised and honing in on a short, irrelevant quote. But I suppose that's a rational tactic when your position is untenable. Or you're incapable of defending it.
quote:

No, it's not. By your own admission, at most you're going to catch 25-50 people per season under your plan. In fact, your words were:
quote:
I'm willing to bet there are not more than a handful, maybe 25-50 season ticket holders, who miss every game or perhaps all but one game.
That number represents a futile effort compared the hundreds or thousands of empty seats. That's not a start. It's a waste of time. Anyway, why would you propose a solution to a problem if you recognize from the beginning it has no hope of solving the problem? Why not just go back to the drawing board?
Finally, few are "begging" for tickets. For most games, if you can't score a ticket outside the stadium, you're either socially inept or a bad negotiator or you can't afford them. Remember, this thread was started to address the fact that too few people are in the stadium. That's pretty good evidence that the supply exceeds the demand, wouldn't you say? Regardless, no one is entitled to football tickets. Except maybe Odell's mama. Cause she done good raising that boy.

You fricking people will find something- anything- to bitch about. Unbelievable! Winning season, good coaching, nice weather, sound defense/offense, good clock mgt, no Jordan Jefferson at QB? Check!
Well by god lets bitch about who ISNT in the stadium!!
Typical.

Can't force anyone to use them (refraining from Obamacare references).
The key would be getting them in the hands of people who would use them.
And doing it relatively cheaply.
I pay alot for my TAF points and season tix. Yes, I could get them elsewhere cheaper. So I'm basically paying a bunch of money (that I'm lucky to have to spare) to support the school and tickets are almost extra, or a perk. Having said that, with that mindset, if I'm not going to use mine I have no issue with essentially taking a monetary loss to make sure they get in the hands of a LSU fan.
And I do give mine away or trade for a deer ham or some duck or some shite. But only to LSU fans; I refuse to put mine on the market and have some Gump or Landmass refugee sit in my seats.
probably the simplest, effective, and easy step in the right direction.

This is not a stupid suggestion. I believe OU and some other SEC schools base some of the "points" you recieve on attendance as well as monitary donations. I would be in favor of this.

Finally, few are "begging" for tickets

well I'll be damned.... was reading through this entire thread (some excellent points and ideas btw).
But, it lead me to go poking around lsutix.net
There is a way to transfer/return tickets. Now I know this isn't exactly what we're talking about here; we're talking about getting asses in the seats. I'm GUESSING this is for season ticket holders only (maybe students too??).
I'm thinking they need to:
A) have a request function too. Assuming if someone would request unused tickets from a season holder, it intends to be used.
B) put some notification system in for requests to the season ticket holder. I don't periodically check the site; would assume others don't either.

With all do respect, I bought my season tickets when we sucked. Where were these "loyal" fans then? Prior to Satan taking over the program season tickets were dirt cheap and just about anyone could have purchased them. Fast forward to present day, and the so called die hard fans all want sea on tickets...
Fwiw, when I can't go I give them to my BIL an nephew. Sometimes I sell on Internet, but the fact remains that they were bought when we sucked tiger balls and I was still a loyal supporter. Where were the 'true' tiger fans then?

There should be a policy in place. Maybe give season ticket holders priority games like students?
There are people on waiting lists who would use them I am sure. Find a way, with all the technology we have, to ensure that tickets are easily placed on the marketplace.
I am not sure...but the typical "What the hell does it matter what I do with my money because it only effects me" fan is an idiot. It effects the stadium atmosphere, players feed off of it, recruits are attracted to it, and the national media puts a positive spin on it.
We, as in the university and the fans, used to pride ourselves on the greatest gameday atmosphere in college football. It isn't that anymore.
I'm also sick of people saying it happens everywhere. bullshite...Penn State people stay for a close game. And let's not pretend that LSU fans didn't leave early for '09 Arkansas...also an overtime game.
Season ticket holders AND students need to be held accountable.
