Why can't CEO step in and Correct the Defensive Issues
Posted by rds dc on 11/1/20 at 10:57 am241
Is CEO actively involved in this absurd defense or is he staying out of the way?

He doesn’t want to be proven wrong

Cause he has no idea what to do. He leaves everything to his coordinators cause he can’t coach himself

At one point we punted and pinned them back at the 1 ft line....the next play, they simply ran around right end for 20.
Gaye, #11, just stood there. No containment! Basic, 4th grade football, jeep containment
When guys are doing that, they suck.

I believe that is the bottom line. He is clueless.

Bingo. He has zero coordinator experience.

And do what?
Make Jacoby Stevens play better, smarter, faster?
Create 17 more scholarship players?
Beat em senseless and have 5 more players opt out?
We have 68 scholarship players... let thatsink in

Bill Johnson is a shite line coach and was fired by Sean Payton. So was the special teams coach because coverage units were shite. Nothing has changed.

Too many holes. Too many guys left + opt outs. Guys just not ready to play at this level. He was a victim of his own success. A 2 loss SEason last year and no opt out and the D This year is absolutely stacked

Just as you are excellent & knowledgeable when it comes to tropical systems, O is just the opposite when it comes to game planning against offenses especially modern spread offenses.

That isn't even a good Auburn team, nor are the others having big seasons even by their own standards.
OP asked why Orgeron doesn't address the defense himself.
Look back at Miles, when things got bad, Les stepped in and did what he did; smashmouth power running team, Toss Dive, etc. No more Jimbo, no more Crowton, straight-up Les.
We laugh and criticize that, but the truth is, it worked for the most part. Stopped the bleeding in 2008, we finished with 8 wins and killed Georgia Tech in the bowl. Built that up to 2011 and a title run, beat Saban's Alabama team a couple times (2010, 2011) along the way. That's because Les understood that style enough to implement it, and we had the dogs to run it against 99% of CFB (ultimately, just not Bama).
We're fast approaching that point now, where if Orgeron has any idea at all on defense, we're going to see it. The offense, despite yesterday, has been good enough to win probably 80-90% of our games. The defense has been bad enough (yes, even against Vanderbilt) to lose every game. Vandy had guys running wide open that they just never hit. South Carolina ran at will.
If we don't see any unique changes, that's your answer on whether O has any actual coaching ideas.
