re: Welcome to SoCal LSU fans. My tailgating tips:

Not sure what OP means regarding brown bags necessary for the tailgating area. I've walked around with beer cans for years, there are no open container rules as far as I know. Also, one or two beer vendors in the stadium? Last week they were selling beer every 50 feet, they were even selling beer at your seats, so no idea where that came from. There's also a beer garden on the north end of the stadium if you want to stand around and watch some other games on TVs.

Perhaps the teams have met in the middle
Good catch, although not sure I'd call an 8 point win over a team that went 0-12 the year before a 'spanking'. Point is, even though LSU has won, it's been relatively close except for that 2 win Arizona team.
Very few SEC teams go out west and beat Pac-12 teams in recent years. I believe the only ones to do it this century are LSU against the Arizona schools and Georgia at ASU. And the ASU games were very close.

You would be surprised at how many conservatives live in Los Angeles. The conservatism here just lacks the religious component you find in the south.

Which one? The one who had 1 Rec for 15yrds or the other who had 1 Rec for 13yrds against Hawaii? I’m more concerned about them blocking than receiving.
The first one

FWIW, I have yet to visit a restaurant that required this, and I live here.

A couple other guys I'll mention: Sean Rhyan, who should be a first round pick in the NFL next season and maybe the best tackle LSU faces this season not named Evan Neal. He has the power and body type of a guard but tackle athleticism.
The other is Qwuantrezz Knight who plays the Striker position, basically a nickel safety. Probably the best leader on the team, and a huge hitter despite being only about 200 pounds. He would fit right in in the SEC, absolutely unafraid to stick his head in and hit someone 50 pounds bigger than him. He needs to get better in coverage.

I gotta ask, how long can a guy at 360 lbs last in a game? Conditionings gotta be hell at that size. Especially against an elite line like LSUs where they’re 8 deep
We generally platoon our guards under Chip, to keep the biggest guys fresh since there is a lot of running and pulling in this scheme. That said, Mafi is a surprisingly spry guy for his size and his conditioning isn't bad at all. He came in at over 400 pounds so this is actually a trimmed-down version of him.
It was good to see Mafi get the start last week. A 360 pounder should match up much better against LSU's tackles than Clemens, who might be 290 soaking wet.

What’s the open container laws like while tailgating? I looked it up and it said it’s prohibited in public places unless permitted.
In the tailgating areas there are no open container rules, you can walk around with whatever you want. No mask rules either.
Ultimately, yes I would be pretty satisfied with a 10 point win
re: LSU UCLA attendance

I would expect about double what the Hawaii attendance was. While the announced attendance was 32K, I was sitting in the stands and there probably wasn't more than about 15K in the actual seats. It was about 100 degrees at the game, and a ton of fans were sitting in the shade outside of the actual stadium, or in the covered beer garden if they could get in and watch the game on the TVa.
Good news for those worried about masks, it was as I expected, you needed the mask when walking around the concourse or when going through security, but at your seats you didn't need to wear one. I hardly saw any masks the entire day, including at the tailgate.

Some computer ratings from last season:
FPI: LSU 28th, UCLA 29th
SP+: LSU 45th, UCLA 46th
Sagarin: LSU 38th, UCLA 46th
So not a ton of separation between the two teams' performances last year. UCLA returns more proven production but LSU has more recruiting talent. Throw in situational factors favoring UCLA (Week 0 game, playing at home, new coordinators for LSU) and I can see why the spread is at 4.
What's notable to me is that roughly 75% of the tickets are coming in on LSU and the line has hardly budged. Meaning Vegas must think they have the right line or are anticipating late money on UCLA.

This. Plus Chip isn’t known for his adjustments or game planning. His philosophy is that they are going to do the same 5-6 things over and over again and just be better at executing those plays than the defense is at stopping them, especially after the defense begins to tire from the HUNH.
You’ve seen more innovative spread concepts and passing concepts in the SEC the past 2 years than you’ve seen from Chip Kelly in his entire career. Which is part of the reason why he’s floundered in mediocrity in two levels of the sport since he left Oregon
Sorry but this is just not true. UCLA has run a completely different offense than his Oregon days, other than being run-focused and using some of the same passing concepts, it's completely different than his Oregon hurry-up spread. Instead of running 5-6 concepts very quickly and spreading to run, it's actually a massive pro-style playbook that is more likely to use 3 tight ends than 4 receivers, and uses a gap run scheme rather than zone. And the tempo varies between extremely slow and very fast, depending on the situation. UCLA fans were clamoring for him to go back to the HUNH after the first couple of years but last year it seemed to work so I guess he still knows what he's doing.
re: LSU USC in Vegas to start off ‘24 season

How would this affect the currently scheduled return game for UCLA in Baton Rouge? I would hate to miss out on that.
Chip's run game switched to more of a gap scheme last season, with lots of pulling, trapping, and unbalanced formations. You won't see them them just lining up and blasting people, the scheme is based on messing with the linebackers' gap responsibilities from play to play. It's a bit like an option team, where you might stop a few plays in a row, but it just takes one linebacker misreading the run fit and you have a giant hole to run through.
LSU should have a physical advantage in the matchup, but UCLA's O-line is very experienced and disciplined, so it will take an equally disciplined and mistake-free effort from LSU to shut the run game down. Should be the most fun matchup of the game as OP said.

If you are coming from Santa Monica, my suggestion is to ride the Expo Line on Metro rail to downtown, transfer to the Red or Purple Line to Union Station, and then take the Gold line to Pasadena and take the free shuttle from there to the stadium. The traffic into and out of the Rose Bowl is HORRIFIC. I ONLY ride metro rail and the shuttle to that stadium! The roundtrip will cost you $3.50. Thank me later.
If you do this, give yourself 3 hours, that's a long trip.
1) Cornerbacks - It looks like last year's starters have been supplanted by two newcomers, which I see as a good thing but I need to see them play in a game.
2) Defensive line - This unit is big and should be decent against the run, but we need to find a pass rush without blitzing.

If you can manage to get a parking pass for one of the lettered lots south of the stadium (A,K,H,I) exiting takes no more than 15 minutes. You might have to pay $50+ on Stubhub to find one but I find it's well worth it.

In the 2019 season (before Covid) UCLA averaged 43,848 fans. And that was with Oklahoma on the schedule. That is pitiful. They need to offer free tickets to the homeless also
I was at that game, I don't think the program ever felt quite as dead as it did that day. You have to remember, UCLA is in the midst of easily its worst five year stretch of football in about a century, at a time when the rest of Los Angeles sports are in a golden age. Frankly, I don't blame our more casual fans for wanting to do something more fun with their time, it's only the sickos like me who keep showing up.
