So what does LSU AD do? They fricking send 60,000 Tiger fans to Dallas to drop millions in hotel, gas, food, alcohol, and ticket revenue to Texas.

This might surprise you, but Alleva's #1 priority is not to boost the local economy.

I'm a current LSU student. I really enjoy going to away games just to see there school and everything. I didn't care to much for Atlanta this year, and I won't like Dallas next year, but these are games that the ENTIRE nation will watch. If Oregon gers the NC win and LSU wins a BCS bowl, it will open next season like a boss.

bullshite bullshite bullshite

This isn't 1980. Every game is on TV every week. Kids are exposed to big time programs now, no matter where they play. And how exactly does LSU playing in Dallas convince Dallas kids to go to LSU? Do they really go to the game and say, "wow, LSU came all the way to Dallas, I'm sold."

I suspect the reason for this is because LSU is going to get a multi-million dollar paycheck plus TV exposure, whereas with a home game against a cupcake would have netted less and wouldn't have had TV exposure.

What's really bullshite about this is that I doubt my Tradition fund contributions are going to decrease next year with only 6 home games. The season ticket holders are the ones really getting the shaft.

LSU is getting more $$$ for that game than a regular home game.

getting a bunch of kids in that area to make the short drive to watch the game and visit with them is much easier than getting them to drive all the way to BR on their own dime for unofficials

What good does it do for a kid to go watch LSU in person in Dallas? The reason for visits is to visit the place they'll be living for the next 4-5 years, not to see the team in person.

Maybe they wouldn't have even bothered to visit LSU if they didn't see the game in Dallas or that game got them interested? It might not be huge but it's ridiculous to think it has no impact on recruiting.

And the State of Louisiana and Baton Rouge hoteliers // tourism workers, bar owners, restauranteurs, etc are getting fricked up the arse without lube because they get ZERO money.

So, if we played them home and home, the kids wouldn't notice?

It's ridiculous to think that recruits don't watch college football on ABC/ESPN.

ETA: I don't think it has zero impact on recruiting, but it isn't nearly as big as most think.

I'm with ya AiH.

I'm pissed off to no fricking end that there are only SIX games in Baton Rouge next year.

SIX.

Normally, there are EIGHT.

That is a cramp in my style, not to mention a HUGE chunk out of the BR economy. Imagine how much money is lost by companies like Manda Sausage, IGA Supermarkets, Circle K @ the North Gates, etc. OH, and the liquor taxes that the state misses out on.

Did Oregon give up a home date for this game?

You live in Hpuston, so why do you care? Since when did it become LSU's responsibility to ensure tourism in Louisiana?

If you want to play Oregon schedule a fricking home and away.

If you're okay with scheduling a home/away with Oregon then you should be okay with playing 1 neutral site game. This way, LSU can schedule another home game next year instead of being forced to go to Oregon. In either of these two scenarios, LSU plays 1 home game over 2 years. So would you rather have the "away" game in a large alum city that is within driving distance from BR, or play in Eugene, Oregon???

Sounds like if you had your way we would only schedule cupcakes at home for all non-conference games.

Good point.

Plus you dont see many non traditional rivals scheduling home and home series with other big schools.

this is great for LSU football. Not so much for the BR economy. But im not worried about BR economy.

"outraged" ?
Seriously ?
I was outraged about Rwanda.
I was outraged about 9-11.
I'm not outraged that we play a hugely high profile national caliber game on tv against oregon in Texas in front of the whole world.

Maybe I am stating the obvious...but what if Oregon didn't want a home and home?

Also, until you figure out exactly how much the university makes, quit bitching. The university and their ridiculous budget-cutting selves have bigger problems to worry about then supporting local businesses. They need to find a way to support the actual school.

That said...it is fertile recruiting ground, which COULD lead to a new talent pipeline, which COULD help bring more national titles and big bowl appearances, which COULD generate more revenue in itself.

And yes, there are alot of Texans who went to LSU and paid good money for it...and I am sure they are happy with a game in TX these days...since the Tigers never can get a trip to Austin or College Station.

Whoa, whoa! Reach down in them knickers Alejandro and unbunch them panties!

It's not all about short-term revenue. I also live in Houston, and know that in the last 5 or so years there has been a tremendous outpouring of great Texas kids to LSU. This was UNHEARD of when I was at LSU in the seventies. LSU through excellent football and remarkably improved academics is working its way from a regional school to a national school, and this is a perfect way to showcase our talent and build our reputation. Have a little vision, and a stiff drink while you're at it. It's all good!
