or

Question 2 -- who has fallen farther? I believe Hallman got fired recently for the umpteenth time by a high school. Laval at least is still in baseball as a scout for the Blue Jays.

The Curlman was awful.
I remember one year shortly after his departure two Alabama homers were TV color for the broadcast of the LSU/ Ala game and they both tried to argue that LSU screwed up by terminating Hallman.I believe ALa had hired Curley as an assist, coach. It was the oddest commentary I ever heard...

...Why must we focus on the negatives? Good or bad, our coaches all did the best they could, and they all played a part in putting us where we are now.

...To everyone that has ever coached at LSU

Fail.
Not only did Curley no know how to coach and set the program back a few years, he used to go out drinking and chasing co-eds.

I might raise my drink to Smoke, because I think he actually tried.

Is this a joke? Curly by a light year. Smoke had a modicum of success, Curly was complete failure from day one. I am friends with one of Curly's better player's, the man was professionally & personally beneath contempt. Scum by any meaning of the word.

LSU has not had it's good name associated with as contemptible a character since William T. Sherman. Curly needs to die so we can spit on his grave.

Curly Hallman has had nothing to do with where we are now. In fact, had we kept Jerry Stovall we'd have never had that many bad years. Hallman did more to hurt this program than any one single man in the history of our athletic program. Another Hallman-like hire after Curly left and the we might have never recovered.

Curly Hallman

I can not post all I know on Curly.

Just say, I told everyone when we hired Curly we would not win over 8 a year.

That was th e96 Bama game when they beat us 26-0. He was the secondary coach I believe and they kept sghowing him up in the box.

Its a tough call as to who was worse. Smoke inherited what was tantamount to the Vanderbilt Estate when he was giving the reins. Curly stepped into a bad situation. Smoke was the hand picked choice by Skip, Curly was just a bad hire, he had a couple of wins over some big name programs while Brett Favre was his QB.

I'd have to go with Smoke. We went from the best team in the country to about the 3rd best team in the state. Curly's tigers had already been losing. It is a tough call though.

I still see no need to dig up the past to denigrate people. I know Curly was unsuccessful (I was alive and hence watching), but the past is the past.

curly and it's not even close. smoke still took us to omaha and IMHO could've won in 2003 if wally was still with us. but what lead to smokes down fall was the rule changes trying to take away from gorilla ball and that's how he was trying to win.

exactly, not mention the secretary he got busted screwing costing him his marriage. I know a few guys that played for Curly. They said it was the craziest thing one minute he would be quoting Bible scripture the next he would be cursing players and calling them motherfrickers and such. It was a sad situation, made impossible for the players to have any respect for him.
