And these responses won’t stop it. Might as well get over it.

When LSU hired Archer that had more wins in the previous 4 seasons than at any time in LSU history (1984-1987) and they had Steve Spurrier begging for the gig. If people can’t see how that is worse than bumbling the transition from Les to Orgeron I can’t help them .
I view the question as questionable "at the time of hire." In retrospect, of course the Archer-Spurrier situation is WAY worse (as of now, if Jimbo or Herman kill it then this will look just as bad as that). Archer was chosen by Arnsparger right? Spurrier was just pretty successful at Duke over a few season. I could be wrong but Archer was a coordinator with good experience, and some high performing teams. The gap was much smaller between he and Spurrier than between O and more than a few dozen options we could have had out there.

At the time of hire Orgeron clearly the worst. He is a low ceiling/low floor guy. Think about that. At least the others had some potential.

Herman didn’t want the LSU gig. Spurrier did. He sat in the office, did the interviews , asked for the job. Herman used LSU to leverage Texas. And Herman is not Steve Spurrier.
You guys are just emotional about this because it’s current.

Mike Archer was worse because of who they turned down- Steve Spurrier and Mike Shanahan for starters.
Wait, so because Alleva did not conduct a real search hiring O was better than the decision to hire Archer? If LSU contacted Urban Meyer would hiring O then be the worst of all time?

1, Orgeron - No search
2. Archer - No Search and Arnsbarger and that mess he did with UF.
3. Hallman - on paper was a good hire. He won at So Miss including beating Bama.
4. DiNardo was the right coach at the time to get Olinemen and build a roster.

And you’re acting like the Spurrier who interviewed for the job in 1987 had the same resume as 1999 Spurrier.

Eh, we don't know for sure what Herman wanted, and all things point to Alleva mishandling both Fisher and Herman for whatever reason. What if he missed a chance to lock Herman up prior to the UT position opening, we fired Miles 4 games into the season, Wilson made it through the season.
I guess it depends on how Herman was viewed now and how Spurrier was viewed then. In retrospect it's clear, but that doesn't make the Archer hire "questionable" necessarily.

This. The argument that somehow Alleva is not at fault because Herman "didn't want the LSU gig" is specious. If that truly is the case, then why didn't Alleva identify and negotiate with a top-shelf coach that would seriously consider LSU? So, is it really better to believe once Alleva realized Herman "didn't want the LSU gig" he ended the search and all negotiations to hire is DL coach who literally no one else wanted and was going no where?
If that is what truly happened then we should fire Alleva now for his incompetence and lack of judgment.

Perhaps the first three were questionable, Orgeron was purely moronic.

Coach O and it's not even close.
This year will be a epic melt

Yes if Urban Meyer wanted the LSU job after Les was fired and was turned down by LSU, this would be worse .
In 1988 LSU had a good roster and was riding a 4 year of successful, and was arguably the best program in the conference. When Les left, not so much.

I thought he never got an interview because he was met at the Baton Rouge airport by some low level assistant and told the job was already filled?

Well, I guess it's a good thing that Alleva shut down negotiations after Herman and Fisher turned down LSU's first offers. No need in contacting Meyer, or Fleck, or Mullen and risk making the O hire worse, right?

You really think Meyer would have come here????? Fleck ????? Has not impressed me......
Now Mullen I would have liked to have.......
Face it spoiled fan O is the coach and if you don't like it go root for someone else.... I am sure you won't be going or watching any games anyway....
