I'm admittedly not a fan who follows the Beach Volleyball team closely but I'm fascinated by their success.
We're not very good at regular volleyball at LSU but somehow exploded on the Beach Volleyball scene from day one.
How in the hell are we in the national title mix with these California teams and Florida State each year?
I followed the girls from this time last season and would LOVE to see LSU win a Beach Volleyball National Championship. Just typing that makes me laugh. But Like Garth said last Saturday, "At LSU it's like y'all are national champions at EVERYTHING."

How in the hell are we in the national title mix with these California teams and Florida State each year?

Tim opened Mangos a couple decades ago and it's just gotten more and more popular in BR since then.

I've been here in Baton Rouge my whole life. I remember Mangos opening. I remember being in high school and some friends' parents started playing at Mangos. We thought beach volleyball was soo weird back then. At 15 we couldn't figure out why 'old' people would play Beach Volleyball in Baton Rouge.
So I get that part of the beach volleyball culture in Baton Rouge.
But is that really enough to recruit the best players in the country? These elite players aren't from Baton Rouge.

There is great local fan following. The beach volleyball coach is 10 times better than the previous volleyball coach and the new indoor coach.
LSU very intelligently converted their old tennis stadium into one of the best beach volleyball complexes in college today

It isn’t just a BR thing, Mangos is well known in the beach volleyball circle around the country. There’s a reason the LSU beach team used to play there until we got the complex built.
Now it isn’t Hermosa beach or anything like that, so the west coast schools will always have that advantage, but Tim and Mangos absolutely helped build that culture here
