Chad Jones is in the conversation. Remember vs Mississippi State?
Man I love Chad Jones and that kick return was awesome, but he's not close to PP7, TM7, or Green.
He used to just get intentionally destroyed rather than call a fair catch, made me so nervous

That is a good point.
However I still feel Tyrann was more spectacular in making something happen out of nothing whereas Peterson hauled arse with good blocking. I know this isn't the question being asked but if I had to pick one guy to return to win us the game I'm taking Tyrann and I guess that's why i keep choosing him.. Even though overall that's not exactly the question.. That's my reasoning.

Badger was best
I'll throw some love in, too, for Domanick Davis

People forget how pedestrian TM7 was before arkansas\georgia games.
definitely not the best
I'm going strictly by memory here, but Mathieu rarely let one bounce, hardly ever made a fair catch, and scared the crap out of me catching balls he had no chance at returning. That is probably why his average is as low as it is - which isn't low. What he did do was save us tons of yards by aggressively fielding punts to save field position and you must take that into account.
People who say he was pedestrian are truly idiots and have no understanding of what he did back there.

Ok, so Peterson was so good early that he got limited opportunities late in the season. And Mathieu was average early, giving him the opportunity to some great things late in the season. How anyone can call one or the other hands down the best is a mystery to me. 3 yards, that's the only difference. Unless someone wants to go advanced metrics and see what average kick length and average starting field position for each returner.
you totally missed the point of my response. poster said they punted AWAY from Mathieu. and that would be FALSE as stated.

Mathieu's near PR for a TD against Georgia was one of the most amazing plays I've ever seen. He broke and shook so many tacklers.

He had a total of 421 PR yards in 2011 on 27 tries. Giving him an average of 15.59 yards.
He had 7 returns for 234 yards against Arkansas and Georgia giving him an average of 33.42 yards.
Besides those 2 games he had 20 returns for a measly 187 yards resulting in an average of 9.35 yards per return.
Was he super clutch in those 2 games and completely changed the game for us? No doubt. TM7 should go down as possibly the best\most clutch play-maker in LSU history.
But like I said. Besides those 2 games, he was very pedestrian as a punt returner.

No love for Trindon Holliday? I'd take him, then PP7, then OBJ.

OBJ was nice but he was no Brad Wing

I remember people calling for someone other that Matthieu to return punts in 2011 until the last couple games were he ripped off his two TDs
So you are using a board full of retards to help you out? Tyrann was fearless in his returns and it was only a matter of time before he hit one. The punters were doing a great job of not giving him much to work with.
Obviously the numbers bare out the fact that despite not breaking a touchdown early in the season he consistently got yards much like Peterson.

Yeah. It's amazing how short people's memories are. Mathieu really wasn't anything special until the Arkansas game. Then the burst onto the scene as a punt returner. The Arkansas and Georgia games got Mathieu invited to New York.

White has a 10.9 average on 25 returns with zero TDs. good call, forgot about him
I guess the Kentucky game didn't happen. Jamal Adams killed a guy on White's punt return TD.

The Arkansas one was so awesome because of the view i had from the student section.
I was standing at the back left pylon as Mathieu was running down the field. I took a couple of steps into the endzone and celebrated with the players after he scored.

You were wrong on the internet. Consequences will never be the same.

I always felt very good when I saw #3 Kevin Faulk waiting for a return raising the roof to the crowd.

chevis back there was awkward, buster was decent, didn't he house one vs bama in 2006?
Posted on 8/27/15 at 10:18 pm to The Boat
That punt return was one of the craziest moments I've seen in the student section. My buddy's girlfriend somehow ended up two rows in front of us after the TD.

I feel like there were threads on here all year about how Mathieu shouldn't be returning punts until the Arkansas game.
