Arnspagner even though he was HC he still was DC

Pure answer would be Aranda
Chavis was good for a while but outside of ‘11 3rd and chavis was real
Bo 1.0 was very good
Boom was awesome but obviously a lot of Saban influence

I think Arnsparger was the best defensive coach we ever had but he was not the DC.
Yes
And you knew he wasn’t staying long.
An NFL guy.

Sounds like my dad. He never played a down of football in his life. The high school he went to didn’t even have a team.
Yet he can tell you exactly what every coach, player should be doing.

Cholly Mac hands down. 17 years as HC, LSU defense NEVER gave up 40 or more points. No one has topped that. Chew on that stat.

Archer's defenses were pretty stout. At least when he was DC, moving the ball on them was a chore. The 2011 defense though was probably the best single season defense in about 50 years.

Charlie Mac and Bill Arnsparger

Best defense LSU ever put on the field was chavis. He went out with egg on his face, but he probably was the best imo.

Lou Tepper, obviously.
Pelini 2.0, obviously.
Matt House, obviously.
THE THREE WORST.
I really want Matt Pennywise the House Clown out of here before the season is over. He's playing a complicated NFL Defense that is over the heads of LSU's defensive athletes. Pennywise refuses to adapt and adjust. IT, stubbornly will not play his best athletes either. (Weeks)

You’re right, no one else in the modern era is even close. A lot of young posters here.
I remember when we did lose, it seemed like it was always 10-7, 13-10, and I remember defenses that played their asses off. Had pride in their school, and took it personally if they got scored on. Even in the Miles years, we had swagger, and teams didn’t want to run patterns across the middle of the field for the risk of being knocked into next week. I haven’t seen such a soft, uncaring, unmotivated bunch since Curley was here.

Since Saban, I would probably say Aranda but LSU historically has had pretty decent Defense Coordinators since 2000. I remember Chavis having a bad year but I really can’t remember what Kevin Steele did. I was too young to remember what Gary Gibbs and Muschamp defense were.

Phil Bennett wasn’t bad.
