I think the nod goes to Jim Taylor over Y.A., Steve Van Buren, and Faneca. I am pretty sure than Taylor won an MVP and was a premier on the league's best team for much of a decade. He was also arguably the 2nd best RB in the league over that time behind Jim Brown. In fact, Taylor was the only person other than Brown to win a rushing title during the years that Brown was in the NFL. I think that takes it!

By the way, would have loved to see Bert Jones play without injury. MVP in 1977 and one of the all time great arms. They changed some rules to help the offense in 1978 or so and that would have been something to see.

I'm a little biased because he's a good friend of my family, he was nominated for the HOF but didn't get in.

One of the best safeties of the 60's and 70's. Won a ring with the Chiefs. I think he'll get into the HOF via the veterans committee some day.

bert jones won an mvp for sure. he was certainly one of the more productive LSU quarterbacks in the NFL. I like the argument for faneca, title, and taylor. i don't think faulk can be put on this list as well as some others mentioned. can't believe i haven't seen more talk about bert.

Kennison had a 13 year NFL career.. not too shabby. How many Tigers had one that long ????

1. Y.A. Tittle. 2 MVP's. three title games. set records.
2. Jim Taylor. 1 MVP. 1 rushing title, How many rings? ;-)
3. Bert Jones. 1 MVP. Could never get past Raiders AND Steelers.

In that order.

I would have to say Faneca. He should go down as one of the best guards in NFL history.

Mawae also had a great career. Jimmy Taylor, Billy Cannon and Henry Thomas all had stellar professional careers, though Cannon was in the AFL. Cannon's pro career (like Faulk's) was somewhat overshadowed by his college career.

nope, b/c the question was tiger, not tigers. some people mentioned guys who were not HOF's. thats kinda why this is an opinion type thread tigerdeacon. also, that would eliminate guys who are potentially HOF's (mawae, faneca, JR) b/c they aren't there yet. good try though

I think Jimmy Taylor was a force to be reckoned with in his day. Hard to compare then to now, but I believe he was an amazing pro.
