I feel its more of Hampton wasn't there for fall, so he starts off in the doghouse.
A kid with that much athleticism, who turned down $$ out of high school, can help you somewhere.
How many sub .200 did we rotate through the lineup??
given enough at bats i think he would have produced

Hampton quit on his own, plain & simple

I disagree...he never started consecutive games let alone got 4-5 in a row.
You got guys like cranford and safford that shouldn’t even be on the roster.
Cranford had 47 ab and 12 starts... why?
Safford had 32 ab 6 starts
Drost 76 ab
Wyeth 33
You don’t think of Hampton was given more reps, results wouldn’t be better?

We talked about all this. He was getting half the reps of anyone else when he left and it was right after Gio was hurt.

Wasn’t it about 5 games after Gio got hurt and Paul didn’t play him in any of them (other than maybe one late game sub in a midweek game)?

ETA: Starting off behind others and starting off in the dog house aren’t the same thing.

I still don't understand the point of leaving mid-season even if that was the case.

If nothing else let him pinch run

At the time, I thought it was get to another school for spring football since he was ready to go and didn’t see things getting better. But he was apparently done with football so yeah. That really didn’t make sense unless there was some real unhappiness with someone.

I am still upset at the way Manieri botched the Maurice Hampton situation

Paul has a "hunch"/ "gut feeling". He left Morgan,Crews, C.Doughty, Dugas and Milazzo in BR.
Millazo probably left his bat at home

Paul said he didn't know when his opportunity was coming. So you sit & not get reps & look like a damn fool when it's time to play because you haven't seen live pitching. This kid is going to be fine. Lol

And that’s what’s puzzling and dumb.
Doghouse might have been the wrong analogy. But he clearly was put in the back of the line since he didn’t participate in fall.
World class athletes just need the reps.
Put him out there especially after Gio injury and let him roll

quote:Some would say that’s completely logical and others would say he should have been given a leg up based on his reputation. It sounds like Mainieri was in the first group, was up front about it, and Hampton or his family were in the latter.
But he clearly was put in the back of the line since he didn’t participate in fall.
quote:There’s currently no evidence that he’s world class, but yes he does need reps. Missing the Summer and Fall really puts him behind in that regard as much or more than playing time in season. The downside of our expectations is you can’t really just throw someone out there and hope they develop unless they’re surrounded by a bunch of other producers or you just run out of options with no one taking control.
World class athletes just need the reps.
quote:Drost was actually on a roll during this stretch and it’s pretty clear Hampton would have gotten an opportunity when he dropped off.
let him roll

His Dad was his problem and the kid didn’t work hard enough to play 2 sports

So all the extra work for cranford, Wyeth, and safford is really paying off??
And yes he’s a world class athlete. How and the hell else do you get offered over $1mill by MLB amd play football in the SEC??
At that point we were floundering at the plate.
Give him the 18 starts you gave drost and see where we are. Or the 12 by cranford.
Why does Safford have 32 ab’s? He’s all of 5’7” and can’t be more than 165# soaking wet,
I’ll take my chances with 6’ 215# 4.4 40 guy
