then that would count as HAVING to use him, no?
If he's the backup, you would play him before you HAVE to use him because at any given point he may be needed. The experience in playing in blowout wins is necessary.

I hope the coaches redshirt him so he can concentrate on his studies.

how is that? if guys aren't ready to play what should Les do? Send em out?
guys that arent ready to play wont play anyway.
Im talking about guys that are ready to play as Freshman. If you can help the team win you should play.

I think LSU does that for the most part

Slow down. Neither the fans nor the coaches know how good he is yet. Wait till they put on the pads. Is he Fanaca good or just good?
If he is Fanaca good then play at guard, tackle, center wherever he can have the kind of impact that Fanaca had on the game. Few OL improved LSU's offense like Fanaca.

Would rather Hurst move to G and Shaw, Davenport or Collins play RT. I'd rather not burn Collins' redshirt unless he wins the starting job or is forced in due to a lot of injuries.

this. Would like to see the program get to where all o-line and d-line redshirt unless absoutley neccessary that they don't. That extra year of maturity and time in the training program makes a hugh difference at those positions.

How much you wanna bet Collins leaves early. I don't care what happened with anybody else. I would bet he is gone in 4 years. I think this kid is special with the potential to be a great pro. I guess we will see.

Jesus I'll bet however much you wanna throw on the table. O-lineman don't leave early too often. You're hyping this kid up so much and he hasnt been in five full practices yet.
Not saying he isnt going to be something special, just slow your roll a little

I move Collins to OC on NCAA12

i doubt he plays this year to be honest. At least at guard. We have two solid guards, and a solid back up. there would have to be multiple hits to the interior oline for him to get the call.

If we did reshirt him and he got three full years to start at either tackle spot (barring injuries) he really might be out of here after his junior year. Might as well use him this year at guard where he is most needed. Next year he can go to right tackle and eventually work his way to left tackle.
Great analysis ... exactly why the coaches are trying him out now ... No way this guy stays for 4 seasons ... Both the Freak & La'el are gone after junior year

I'd love to take you up on this.
Also Ole Miss isn't LSU. The first three years Oher was at Ole Piss they had 3 wins, 4 wins and 3 wins. They didn't get the kind of recruits and talent LSU has. Collins will redshirt.
Again, yal have no idea how good Collins is.

I thought Greg Shaw, who is a senior, was supposed to be a pretty solid player. Are you saying that La'el has passed him and Matt Branch up as a true freshman.

Yes

Check my message in the other thread. I was all for redshirting him originally. And I doubt he needs to play this year as he is the 5th guard behind blackwell, JD, TBob, and Williford. However, I didn't realize that he and williford are likely going to start at guard in 2012. For that reason, as well as the hints from the other thread about Miles talking about how he'll have him on the field in some manner, I assume he doesn't redshirt.
Its also plausible that if Collins is that good they'll move the lesser pass protector of he and Faulk to RT in 2012 and slide hurst over to LG.

I say get him some game experience so he's ready to step in next season. We're gonna need him.
