He only played one year at LSU, but Brandon Larson put up probably the greatest offensive season in LSU history.
1997 Memory Lane
.381, 40 HR, 118 RBI and 9-10 SB and he was an above average SEC short stop. It was a different era, but the same season Eddy Furniss only hit 17HR with 77 RBI as a senior.
Bregman is a phenom and the best defensive SS I have seen as LSU, his cannon arm makes him better than Nola. He also has blazing speed and is one of the better base stealing infielders in recent memory. If he could have maintained his freshman offensive production, we would probably consider him clearly the best player ever to wear the purple and gold. Unfortunately he didn't maintain that level and his poor showing in the CWS make him "only" one of the many greats.

Specifically, I want Bregman to have hit a double a few ABs before Chi hits a grand slam to win the deciding game of the championship series.

Fielder yes, hitter no. He will have to change his approach or he'll die in AA. He doesn't have the IQ at the plate that Hill had. While I love him he tries to pull every pitch and doesn't look for the 'pitcher's pitch'. He's way too aggressive in situations where he needs to just make contact /hit the ball the other way/take a pitch. He can learn b/c he will be at the end of the order and playing 2nd in July.
His stats suggest otherwise and he had nerf bats. And I will bet whatever you want he won't be playing 2nd base in July.
Die in AA? He had ml bat speed and incredible plate discipline, doesn't strike out. He's pulling the ball now because he can.

His did a lot of his damage on the base pads early. In SEC, his SB average is bad.
ETA: he's getting thrown out over 40% of the time in SEC games.

The best I have ever seen in purple and gold. Plays the game the right way and represents LSU with honor and integrity.

Russ Johnson and Aaron Hill were both better.
i can buy a Russ Johnson argument, but Aaron Hill, not a chance in hell. Hill wasnt a standout until his 3rd year in the program.

This. LSU Baseball All-timers need rings.
You can't just limit all-timers to LSU so either baseball greats are measured by championships, or they aren't.
Do you want to try and tell me Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Bonds, Don Mattingly, Willy McCovey, Carl Yastrzemski, Tony Gwynn, Ty Cobb, & Ted Williams aren't all-time greats?

I mean, you could argue he's not even a top 2 shortstop in LSU history.
Certainly not top 5 overall.

No Mikie Mahtook love in this thread? I think he is pretty underrated on the LSU all time list.
