It’s not a fun town. The traffic there is beyond bad, like even on regular weekdays.
Stay wherever for game day then go see another part of Florida.

The Drury Inn is pretty nice, good amenities, outside of campus and downtown but not far away and right off the highway (opposite side of town from the airport though).
Prices are nuts for that weekend though (I live is south Georgia and am considering going to the game). If you're going alone, it might be best to just get a single bedroom Airbnb that's within walking distance from downtown because ubers will be a pain in the bullocks that Saturday night.

I would recommend not going to Gainesville. It’s a boring place. Worst fans. Stadium is like an oven. But if you go I would stay somewhere like at Ponte Vedra area. Only 1.5 hr drive to Gainesville and a nice area.
