re: Where did the narrative that Coach Mc is a great Xs and Os coach originate?

What did you expect our record to be? If you look at McMahon’s trajectory at his last stop it was two seasons around .500 records followed by a bunch of 25+ win seasons. They were like 31-3 his last year.
This team is better than last years, and the shadow over the program is gone. If we flop next year he will be gone, but he was always going to get at least 2.5-3 years to work.
The two games prior to the road loss to Bama — who may win the conference — were losses by a combined margin of 6 pts.
We are severely lacking strength inside & Cook is not a guy you can build a team around at this point… yet, we are leaps and bounds better than last year.
Roster should be improved in 2025. There’s plenty reason for optimism if you’re doing more than reading the box scores.

Lol. I have said multiple times I think he’s gone if we flop in 2025. If this is his ceiling, then yea that’s not gonna work.
But this is definitely not his ceiling & at this point, I think 2025 could be a fun basketball year. I guess some of you expected us to be back in the tournament year 2.

Well the Wade haters hate to admit his record was 25-5 won the SEC following JJ with a 2-16 record SEC

Liking Wade & McMahon doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive. McMahon’s coaching record has absolutely nothing to do with Will Wade.
I get where this crap comes from, but I don’t understand what you peoples’ endgame is... You want to fire a coach taking over a scandalized program, in his second year?
Who tf you think is gonna want to touch the basketball program at that point?
And for the record, calling it a “scandalized program” is not a shot at Wade. It’s just an observation — the scenario was held over LSU’s head. He’s getting a 3rd year.

Can someone explain why and how?
McMahon has run some better set offensive plays this year than Wade did in his entire career at LSU. Wade had better guard creators and big men on offense than McMahon has.
He was handed an empty cupboard doused with gasoline and lit on fire and has made the best of it. We don't have the horses and team culture there yet because he literally started with zero players or coaches.

The answer is (a) someone who was previously involved in some type of scandal and is trying to regain credibility or (b) someone like McMahon who is trying to take the next step. On paper, McMahon was a solid selection but hasn’t yet panned out. A school in LSUs situation (Title IX, NCAA investigation could never entertain option a.

I will take credit for it. I came up with that notion about two weeks ago.

He is a good Xs and Os coach. He is getting a lot out of players with average level SEC talent.
I find it very funny how the same posters who come on here and shite on players will turn around and say that our players actually aren't that bad when they want to shite on McMahon.
My stance is and always will be that McMahon is a solid Xs and Os coach, but he is limited by his talent. Obviously it is a coach's job to recruit, develop players, and assemble the roster so that's on him. However, I do think that if we had a better roster we'd be seeing McMahon go deeper in his bag coaching wise. Talent is always relative to the opposition- McMahon had some of the most talented teams relative to OVC compeition and that's why his offense was different there. Wade has top tier talent in the Southland and he's dominating. We have average SEC players on our team (unless you wanna hate McMahon, then apparently we have the talent of Tennessee, Bama, and Kentucky) and for that reason he's having to adjust to the harder SEC climate.
I'm a tad bit worried over Saturday's game and the rest of the season. We have a solid team, individually we're nothing spectacular. We have to play with 110% effort for 40 minutes to win games. I don't want our players to hang their head on this victory and check out for the remainder of the season. I don't think they will, and I believe in our squad and McMahon. I just want to make the most out of this season.
