re: When will Nussmier run the ball...

This started last season with Bama, TAM & others who sat back and flooded the passing lanes with bodies. Rush 3 or 4 and defend our WRs/TEs leaving few passing lanes to find people.
LA Tech executed this very well and much more talented teams on DEF are going to attempt to do the same. IF he still chooses not to run, when the closest defender is past the sticks, it will hurt this team in the long run.
He has to learn as a complete QB to take what the DEF offers. A 6-8 min scoring drive is just as good as a quick strike one. A few runs would force the LB's out of the passing lanes providing more opportunities for crossing routes in the middle of the field and space for opposing DBs to defend.
Our OC MUST find a way to convince him to run, when needed, AND have a plan when UF, OM, USC-E and others the next few weeks squat on the passing lanes and our receivers. The potential of this OFF to be very consistent & explosive, dictate the pace & tempo of play, and play complimentary football with our DEF is there.

can 100% guarantee the coaches told him not to run vs LA Tech.
Except, Kelly gave him an ear full on one that he didnt take, so no the coaches didnt tell him not to run. This is asinine to believe any coach would take any positive plays away form a team like that.

He held the ball once vs Clemson and ran for 8-10 yards.
This was on a designed run okay where he was told to run the ball, it wasnt a scramble drill where no one was open and he took off.

If he does NOT run a couple times vs Florida when it obvious that he could do so, then I will lead the pitchfork brigade.
Well sharpen your pitch fork because he will not do it, he will try and fit a ball somewhere and against a better defense will get picked off.
Sorry Nuss just isn't the qb we all hoped he would be. He's not horrible but he's not a game changer.

Dude, it isn’t happening unless it’s a designed run. He is kinda who he is at this point. It’s frustrating, to be sure.
No doubt, at this point we're beating a dead horse - the coaches are just going to have to call it for him to do it, if he has the option he's handing off.

Hopefully they start calling a few designed QB runs per game.
They did it once or twice vs Clemson and her got first downs on both.
I think calling more designed QB runs would give him more confidence to start taking the easy yards the defense gives him on pass plays.
If the defenses have to account for him running our offense gets a lot better.

The only reason even JD5 got free rein to run no matter the opponent in ‘23 is because Nuss was the backup
That and because with that defense we had to score as much and in any way possible to have a chance for victory

Only when he has to and not against La Tech and Southeastern.

This.
He needs to watch prime Aaron Rodgers videos. He was a master of it. Go through his reads, if nothing there, he'd run 5 yards and slide. Sometimes, he'd just see it right away and take off and slide for 5-8 yards. Really frustrates the defense. Only did this like 5-6 times a game, but the defense has to worry about it, they stay on the field longer and wear down, etc.
He doesn't need to get hit. Take a chunk of yards and slide. Run back to huddle, up tempo next play.

Nuss has a tendency to make a high risk throw even with 20 yards of open space in front of him to easily gain with is legs. I don't get it.
Exactly what I see and that kills drives. He's killed more drives than I've killed ducks.

Nuss just might be a P2ssy, or dumber than people give him credit for.
I don't think he is a puss because he got hurt pretty good and came back in the game last year. However, he doesn't seem to have the best instincts when it comes to taking off. Always seems to want to still pass even if it ain't there. When he did design runs for him against Clemson, he did good.

One concern is with the amount of pressure that was put on Nuss with just a 3 man front he better get to moving from here on out.
Posted on 9/8/25 at 2:21 pm to mtb010
it will only help his draft stock to show he has the ability to gain yards when the blocking breaks down...and the offense

there were at least two plays where he could have run it and had plenty of room to go out of bounds 15 years down field without anyone laying a hand on him - the approach is to win the game -
The game against Tech was never in doubt.
I said it in another thread, and many have said it in this one: there was no reason for Nuss to run and risk getting decleated into oblivion during the equivalent of an exhibition game.
To me, this felt like BK was treating it like an NFL preseason game. The only thing that mattered was the "W", which was never in jeopardy. Take no chances with the only irreplaceable person on your roster, and tinker around in other areas to get ready for the start of SEC play.
Of course, you're welcome to take umbrage with having Green blocking for a run and getting injured, but he's far from being irreplaceable. Braelin Moore's injury was a fluke and could have happened to anyone playing OL.
Again, though, there was NO reason for Nuss to run, even when he could have gained a lot of yards doing so. Avoiding injury while trying to get a little better at downfield reads with his young receivers was probably the main objective.
Just my opinion.

Only if the field was empty. Nuss ain't outrunning anyone 85yds.

Nuss needs to learn to, even fat Roethlisberger had a hell of a scramble

Why don't you people let it play out? I still remember people complaining about JD's passing ability early in his Heisman year.

When playing LA Tech, do you want your QB1 running the ball into traffic for 5 yards?
No, and I never said run into traffic. There were a handful of opportunities that he could have gotten 5-8 and not been touched.

Or is this directly from the coaches not to run the ball.
It was a 2nd and 10 play nuss just hurled one into the endzone.. I personally watched Kelly run up the sideline showing him the room he had to run. I just don't think he is comfortable doing it.

He's waiting for the Alabama game when they're down by 3 TD's so he can emulate Joe Burrow's 1st Heisman moment against the gunps.
