When was the last time LSU started a season not ranked in the Top 25?

We'll jump to 20ish after Burrow dick slaps the Hurricanes

If you want a nationwide referendum on Da Coach O, this is it.

With Burrow we May still start in the top 25.

I think LSU is probably won of the 25 best teams in the country, but for some crazy reason people vote based on the schedule even in preseason. The perception of our schedule is gonna cost LSU votes in the poll.

People will be along shortly to tell us its where we belong, miles left the cupboard bare, coach 0 is doing the best he can etc... SAD!

We'll be in the teens with a solid showing and a win against Miami

The schedule is against us for sure as far as perception goes. So people vote against us thinking we have a minimum of 4-5 losses. I can’t blame them.

It isn’t that. It’s lack of respect for Orgeron as head coach and his capability to address our needs on offense. There is a reason for this.

One of the biggest myths on this board... 7 draftees, senior QB, JR RB drafted in second round, Senior WR drafted in the second round, 3-4 juniors on the oline 2 of which were All SEC, same amount of Juniors on D line, 3 All SEC players on defense, veteran players throughout the offensive and defensive lineup, but yea cupboard was bare...

I just don't get why the schedule should factor into the preseason rankings. IMO, the rankings should always reflect how good the teams are at the time, not what they are projected to be. How many times have schedules been misjudged before the season due to teams either over or underachieving? I just don't think it should be a consideration.

Oh, I agree. But, I still think LSU is a top 25 team. The real problem is that they have at least top 10 talent, if not top 5.

Issue is people have different definitions of rankings. Some base it on how good they are at the time (power rankings), some base it on their current record, and some base it on where they believe those teams will be at the end of the season.

It blows my mind how this can be viewed as acceptable. You aren't making a prediction when you rank the teams, you are deciding who you think are the best 25 teams. When pollsters rank based on predictions, they are basically setting everything up as a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Although, I guess it doesn't really matter anymore with the playoff committee. I would think rankings still factor in the commitee's opinions whether they admit it or not.

2000. My sophomore year. Honestly that and 2001 the most fun years ever for me, even more so than national title year. That Tennessee game was my favorite game ever as a student.
