I moved to Baton Rouge as an infant.
The first game I remember going to was against Florida State in 1981 around my 7th birthday.
Was a huge LSU fan as a kid (went to a lot of home games back in the 80s) and went to LSU for 8 years and got a BS and MBA.
Moved away from Baton Rouge in 2002 and became active in the local alumni chapter here in Oregon. I watch every game I can just as I have pretty much my entire life.
I know every word of the alma mater and recite them like they are my wedding vows. Because I am married to LSU for life. Through thick and thin, in Hallman and in Miles. 2-9 or 11-2.

Born and raised in south Louisiana. I've always loved LSU as a kid. I think that it came with my interest of the game of football as I was growing up.
But I started bleeding purple and gold when my brother got free tickets from his boss to an LSU/Arkansas game during the Kevin Faulk era. It was my first game, we won 28-0.
The following spring, my sisters ex husband, who owns the akasha store in Tigerland, took me to the spring game and introduced me to my favorite player Allen Stansberry after the game. He became good friends with Allen from his visits to the store.
Ever since then, I've bled purple and gold.

Loving the stories here today. I can't wait for Saturday. 11:21 am or 7pm, where else would you rather be on a Saturday in October?

For me, it's also a story of the radio. I'm 46, and remember well the days of having ONE college football game on Saturdays. Then, things got even better when we started getting TWO. There was ONE national game about noon, then ONE regional game mid afternoon. If we were EXTREMELY lucky, we'd get to see LSU one time a year on tv. Usually the Alabama game, and we always lost. So since they usually weren't on tv, my whole family would sit in the den, and listen to the golden tones of John Ferguson, you know, freakin "The Waltons" style.
We lived in Metairie, then later, LaPlace. My dad would usually take me to about one game a year. He was an LSU grad.
I still remember my first time going. I was about 7, and we were playing Ole Miss. Ole Miss would run around the stadium waving the Rebel flag. IIRC, the stadium had a track around it back then. My dad told me to "watch what happens when that flag gets in front of the student section". Sure enough, a couple of frat stars bailed out of the stands, and tried to take the flag away.
When I got my driver's license at age 15, I'd slip out of LaPlace on Saturday nights, tell my parents I was just going "out", but I'd wind up in BR holding my fingers up for two tickets for me and the fortunate honey that slipped out of LaPlace with me (or one of my buddies sometimes).
Again, I'm 46. To this day, no event - not one - - excites me more than LSU football.

I think I speak for everyone when I say, I don't give a frick about who you are, where you're from, what your grand-daddy did, why you are a fan, or whether you deem anyone else a bigger fan because of your purported LSU lineage. You aren't going to make me, or anyone else, feel bad about being fans without having degrees. Take your small-minded elitist bullshite to the OT or the Poli-board.

No problem here with fans without degrees. That would halve our fan-base.
I mentioned my only gripe is someone from the area who CHOSE a different school over LSU. So, if you chose SLU b/c of grades or finances, I'm cool with that.
My niche gripe is with the fancy pants kids from private schools who go on to private colleges. Then, after coming back to settle in BR, go to the LSU games like average LSU fans, grad or non-grad. I don't like that very much.

Season tickets (U22, SW end zone), attended games starting at ~ 6 years old in mid 70s. Fellow season ticket holders in a 5-man radius were my surrogate family - a large chunk of them busing up from NO for each game. Grew up with these folks and LSU football. Attended and graduated from LSU. Bleed purple and gold.

How about the guy who is a current LSU student and is still a Gator fan?

I do like your story as well.

Grew up in Baton Rouge, lived there for 21 years. Went to quite a few games, my grandfather was a ticket taker at Tiger Stadium for decades, so he always had a hook up. If the game wasn't on TV, believe that game was on all radios in the house, loud

I have been the head janitor in Tiger Stadium since 1954. I have seen all the greats. I've seen them come...and I have seen them...all of them...GO! In my profession one thing you realize that sooner or later...everyone has to Geaux. Hearing the roars of the stadium crowds as I swab the urinals and unplug the toilets has made me a Tiger fan for life. Geaux Tigers! (just don't geaux on the floor please!)

First game in Tiger Stadium in 1963. Many games intervening. Season ticket holder in upper west during the DiNardo years when my kids were old enough to attend. Barely survived the 35-34 win over Houston.
Moved to another planet over a decade ago and have had to enjoy LSU games wherever I can catch them. Arrival of the intertubes in this sector of the solar system was a welcome addition.
ETA: Graduated from LSU. Most memorable game as a student was Jones-to-Davis last-second pass to beat Ole Miss. Yes, I was in the stadium.

Haha I saw that earlier. I don't know about that guy.
I'm just very tolerant and I welcome anyone to cheer for our Tigers. But using 'our' when talking about a team is reserved for the fans out there who truly have a tradition of fandom.
That said, I clarify again that fans don't need degrees to be fans. You can say "Our Tigers" if:
1. Your dad beat your butt when the Tigers lost as a kid
2. Went to games or, if not in BR, listened every Saturday while tossing ball in the yard.
3. Alumni obviously
4. Marry someone falling into 1-3.
Help me out here. we can make a list of criteria for being a real fan, one that can say "we are #1" or "our tigers".
