I wouldn't be mad if the next coach retained Jones. I also wouldn't be mad if the next coach let Jones go in favor of his own guy. It should not be a topic of discussion as a prerequisite with the new coach we're bringing in.

The D has looked stellar the last two games. Pretty much disappointing before then.

Was it Ed getting out of the way and letting Daronte actually coordinate? If so, it's some of the best DC work ever. He's basically coaching with a B-team.

New HC could potentially interview him, however I would imagine the new HC would clean house.

He's showing something now. He deserves a chance at DC at another school after this. I still wonder if he'll get figured out and be able to adjust. But there is some talent there.

I completely agree.

I'd be fine with the new coach interviewing current staff members, but I'm all for starting from a clean slate.

Like what he’s done the last 2 games.

Still unclear how much O was meddling earlier.

Weather he should stay or not depends. If the next coach has a strong history as a defensive guru (Aranda) I wouldn’t hate it if he kept Jones on.

On the other hand, if the next coach is an offensive guy (Riley) I don’t trust Jones enough to keep him.

My feeling is there’s probably 100 D coordinators better than him.

Defense isn’t a one step solution.

Decent defenses need a year to work out the kinks. Good ones can solve that within six months, but you need a great defense to be able to do it with a retool within a year.

I think we are finally sing what Jones brings to the table. You cannot make be believe that with how Ed O talked about defense for the past few years, he wanted defense where the DLINE was dominate and everything else was basic for coverage. He based his defense off 4 guys being 5 on a consistent basis. That is what we had the first 5 weeks of the season.

Now we are seeing an actual scheme, its not blitz every down, it is mixing it up. No way Jones is not involved with that because Ed O cannot do that stuff.

Seems like a decent hire but we started out so bad anything would be an improvement. However the quality of tackling the QB makes me question every defensive coach we have. He will get a good job somewhere I bet.

lsu should not have a dc with 1 year experience unless the hc is a defensive mind.

We should check with Venables to see if he would like a change of scenery.

Thought he was a terrible hire and the first seven games proved I was correct.

After the last two games I think I could accept him coming back if that is who the new coach chooses. The new coach will have a chance to get the real story about who was doing what in the beginning. The only story that makes sense from the outside is that he no longer has to please coach O and daddy Stingley so he play the way he wants and who he wants.

What you guys don’t realize is that Coach O didn’t let Daronte run the defense he truly wanted to run until recently. He didn’t want him blitzing either. WhT you have seen over the past few weeks is Daronte having more control over his defense without Coach O in his ear.

You do not clean the full house, you got to keep Raymond and Joseph.

I'm sure Orgeron meddled and held him back. It was kind of obvious when O started to take credit for the defensive success.

I think he’s proven himself the last 2 games even with injuries.
