It's always hard to predict how good a kid is when he has crap for competition.

This is exactly why a stud HS RB like Ridley didn't get solid offers but from Ole Miss and LSU. Played in a very small class of private schools.

also where did you get the info he was 5th among LBs on his own team in tackles?

From Arizona Western's NJCAA stat page

They actually have some talent at LB, beleive they have 2 other LBs going to P5 schools (both had more tackles than Garrett).

i dont know why he chose UAB. He had better offers. Good luck to the kid.

He definitely had an Auburn offer but I'd be iffy on that FSU offer.

IMO he knew he's simply not good enough to get paying time at schools like that after LSU so he chose the safest option which is go to the team that doesnt have any competition really for him.

How can the highschool recruiting world screw up the ratings of a player so bad?

Look no further than the NFL draft every year with a much larger and more significant sample of players and virtually unlimited resources to evaluate.

They dont have the whole season posted but like 6 games or so:

LINK

And actually I was wrong, he was 6th on the team in tackles among LBs.

LB David Luafatasaga is going to Ole Miss
LB William Johnson is going to Nebraska

the coaches did though

since they didn't put him in real games where he could cost us a loss, it doesn't count

We didnt see enough of this kid to tell if he wasnt good or not.

I would normally agree, but the simple fact that his landing spot was UAB tells me he likely wasnt very good.

yeah, and in games 1 and 2:

6tck 2 TFL 1 sack 1 FF

6 tck 2 TFL 1 FF

then he isnt listed in participating in any other game. I highly doubt he went from playing and playing well in the first 2 games to not playing at all. He's likely been hurt from game 3 on because his season stats matchup pretty much with games 1 and 2.

No one has really been able to answer. Its kind of embarrassing.

just curious, but based on what?

him leaving made our LB numbers even thinner. To the point where a guy like Voorhies was moved to LB. Did our coaches run him off? what do you know that we dont?

I don't think anyone can deny some guys take longer than others, but CG did not take football that seriously. Lots of posts on here and 24/7 have made it clear he was more interested in tigerland than the weight room. He was overrated coming out of HS, and didn't want to put in the work to be a guy who grows into his ranking.

Timeline:

- Comes to LSU to backup Beckwith
- Going into 2nd year is about 4th string on the depth chart at MLB behind Feist (who is now a FB) and a walk on
- Leaves for Arizona Western CC, sits 6th on tackles among LBs
- Has offers from Auburn and FSU supposedly but chooses...UAB? A team that doesnt exist till 2017

Put the puzzle pieces together

This situation reminds me of the Adam Maconathy deal. I think it was around 1999-2000, maybe Saban's first year? He was Mr. Louisiana in football, and the best player in the state. He was a LB, and was heavily recruited, signed with LSU, ran a 4.6 40. He showed up on campus considered the next big thing.

During early practice, he wasn't listed as a starter on the list released to the public. His dad went off in the press about it. Bottom line, dude quit before he played. LSU fans freaked, couldn't believe we were losing best LB ever. He got released to go wherever he wanted, and he transferred to Texas. Never played, then transferred to LA Tech, and was a reserve for a year, I think. HUGE flop.

Anybody else remember that debacle?

Why do the fans need to come to a conclusion when they coaches didn't see fit to play the kid after watching him every day for 2 years? That is the issue with your whole argument.

The evidence is there that he is a marginal player. An offer from Auburn is not exactly a ringing endorsement of the type of players LSU needs. Their only LB commit is a 3*, and they are not in on any top LBs other than Ben Davis.
